I just learned on Spark Coach about Non Exercise Activity Thermogenesis. This is the activities we do that are active but not necessarily exercise. It is here that I am killed. Even when I work out, the rest of the time I sit in my recliner. There MUST be some ways to increase my NEAT....So the purpose of this blog is to list various ways I can be more active.

1) STand up and go refill my water bottle every time it is empty.
2) When I stand up or sit down, do an extra "stand/up'/sit/down" squat.
3) Every time I get up, walk up and down the staircase until my legs tire.
4) March while doing dishes.
5) Sweep the kitchen floor
6) Walk the length of my driveway several times
7) Rake the lawn (not sure if my shoulder will allow that)
8) take out the garbage
9) Place my computer on the kitchen counter and stand while on it.
10) put on some music and dance a little

These are ten things I can easily do to get my body moving more. Can you think of any others?

    These are all great ideas. I try to get in some extra steps when I go to the grocery store. I will park in the back of the lot (unless it is poring rain or blizzard conditions) while in the store I will walk down almost all of the aisles even though I know I do not need anything from them. I do avoid the cookies, candy and chips locations just tooo much temptation there. Sometimes I walk the paper and pet food aisles a few times. I will also wander around the produce section sometimes going in circles. People probably think I am crazy. emoticon emoticon emoticon

    While sitting do leg lifts every 1/2 hr. If the phone rings, get up and answer it (my speaker phone is on my tall dresser so I have to stand at it, leaving myself free to do whatever movement I want -this is a necessity as its painful for me to hold a phone up to my ear.) Don't use a remote for the TV or stereo

    If you're watching tv, you can get up & walk around your room or have a little dance party during commercials? :) I really like that one because it's a set duration & set time :)

    I have got a peddler .. It is like the middle of a bicycle.
    I can sit in my Lift chair that supports my back and peddle ..
    If you have a Fitbit .. You can get heaps of minutes up and it is classed as cardio.
    My physio recommended it and it is great ...
