The second appointment for WLS

Saturday, July 06, 2013

I went for my second appointment at the WLS clinic. The nurse practitioner started off by taking my measurements, not good, all though I have not put on any more weight since my last doctor’s appointment I also haven’t loss any.

Next she questions me about medical history in order to determine what tests I will have to have. Fortunately I don’t have a lot of health problems so my test will be the basic ones. Of course there are the blood tests they are checking for everything they can think of. They also plan to do an ultrasound on my abdomen to make sure there are no additional problems. Although I don’t think I have sleep apnea, the nurse practitioner is going to discuss with the specialist to decide if I need to be tested. My weight & age are both risk factors that could increase my chances of having sleep apnea.

My next appointment is at the end of the month with a social worker. I believe we are going to discuss the emotional reasons for my weight problems & how to deal with them.
After this I will have an appointment with a dietitian to make sure I am on the right track & most likely discuss the changes my diet will take over the next few years.
Then about 3 months from now after all this has been completed I will have another appointment with the nurse practitioner to make sure everything has been covered & to determine if more test are necessary at that time. I am not 100% sure, but I am thinking if all the test are completed at this time and none of them show any additional problems, I could be placed on the waiting list at by Oct.

With that in mind I am starting a new plan today. I am going to aim for a 30lbs weight loss between now & the time I meet with the nurse practitioner about 3 months from now. I know this is a lot to go for, but I know it is doable & I want to do as much as I can to reduce my weight before the surgery.
