Things that help me along...

I've been sticking to this whole "better myself" routine for over two months now.
But, I've also been at this for years!! Up, down, I want to , I don't want to, I just can't, oh give me that cookie!! BOX!!, mmmmm pizza, I'm so fat, pass me the brussel sprouts please, woohoo I've lost 5lbs let's celebrate...I'm craving a hamburger!!!! I love working out, I hate this stupid treadmill, I'm just so tired...and hungry... And on, and on....
So, why am I still at it you ask? Why can some people diet so well, and others cannot?? And even, THE SAME PERSON!! I can do so well one time, and totally suck at a different time!! Well, have you heard that the brain is actually our sex organ??? It is!!! The same goes for our "wellness" organ. Yes. I said it. It's all in your head!!!!!! If your brain doesn't want to lose weight, well...I'm sorry to be the one to break this to you, but you WILL fail.
What can I do to get my brain with the program???
Hm...well, here's what I do to my brain...and I said DO, not DID. It is an ongoing process. Just like you monitor your food, you add up your calories, you put on those sneakers and get your body in motion...you do this every day! You must never stop doing any of these things!!!
What works for me:
(I will go ahead and say that this may not work for everyone!! We are all very different. I don't like pickles. There, I said it! But, if you could just take away one little thing that might help you...then, I'm glad I took the time to share this with you all).
Read A Diet Book - ANY - Get your brain educated and interested in what you want it to do...even months before you actually do anything
Watch Weight Loss Shows - The Biggest Loser, Extreme Weight Loss...YouTube has older episodes...or I'm sure you could buy them somewhere also
Become A Fashionista!! - Purchase fashion magazines, pay attention to current styles, do lots of window shopping, try clothes on (even though you don't plan to buy anything because you're losing weight and they will be waaaaay to big on you in a few months!), watch fashion movies/shows...Sex in The City, The Devil Wears Prada, The Wedding Planner, What Not To Wear, Say Yes To The Dress...
Start a Scrapbook - Make a book with your progress. Start with a before picture...if that's all you have, start clipping those magazines for "goal" pictures, or goal outfits. After all, now that you are a slave to fashion, you are all about those cute outfits you see on tv and magazines! :) Write your thoughts. Keep track of your numbers. Print out Sparkpeople reports and glue them in your scrapbook. Weekly, Monthly...Write yourself messages of hope in permanent marker!!
Fitness Magazines - Get at least one every month/2 months. Rip pages out, hang them up, put them in your scrapbook, tape them up in your bathroom mirror, inside your closet...whatever works. See that person jogging?? THAT could be you!! She's smiling! You see that??? Getting fit is so much fun!
Your Computer, Mainly The Internet - Use your internet to its fullest potential. Social websites...let your friends (near or far, real or cyber) know what you're doing!! Your brain won't enjoy letting them all know you're off your diet 2 weeks after you started. Mmmmhmmmm. I'm looking at you.
JOIN PINTEREST. All fashionistas are on pinterest. And when your brain starts acting up, log in and do some virtual shopping and dreaming...heck, even exercise :) I'd say join Sparkpeople, but ummm, you're reading this, soooo, uuuhhhh, yeah.
Your Closet - Make sure there are goal outfits in there. Even mini goal outfits. Your brain wants to see, touch, and smell your achievements. If your strapped for cash, visit the closest thrift shop!! I bought lots of "I'll fit into you soon enough" outfits for CHEAP!!! Did I mention I have DKNY jeans in my closet? Size 10, $5. I'm almost there, almost there, almost there... And the cutest polka dot dress!! Oh, I just love it! Size 8! $10!
Acknowledgments/Reminders - Your brain is alive. It needs to know it's doing a good job...(it needs reminders as well if it's very forgetful like mine). Have mini goals with rewards. Have visual cues as a reminder of where you've been, where you are, ad where you want to go. This can be pictures on your refrigerator, outfits hanging up outside of your closet (where you can always see them), constantly looking at and updating your scrapbook/journal, logging into Sparkpeople and lurking around (the least you can do)....I also use jars. I wrote a blog about them a little while back. Essentially you have two jars, one for pounds you want to lose and one for pounds you have lost. When you lose a pound you move a rock over into the other jar. Keep them in a place where you will see them often. (Mine are on the window ledge over my kitchen sink). I see them everyday. Multiple times a day. First thing when I wake up...hello jars! How many rocks will I move this week? Hm, hmm, hmmmm???
Oh, and I reward myself with something every 10lbs. :) Usually fashion/beauty related.
That's all I have for now....I could keep going...I really could, but I have to get ready to go to the gym now!!!!!!
If you would like to share what works for you, please comment!!
Thanks for reading!
