...is a failure to communicate. MY BAD! I read the first comment on my last blog entry and thought I buried my point too deeply and I responded directly. Now I see three comments that say basically the same thing, so I guess I completely screwed it up. Instead of answering each comment individually I'm going to give it another try.
When I was ticking off the elements of my race, I was trying to convey the feeling of high satisfaction I got from breezing though a marathon despite not accomplishing everything I might have. I used the "Fail" word in a light hearted internet meme state of mind. I recognize that I do not have the build and muscle type to achieve outstanding or even average times for my age group. Of course, a P.R. or a trophy is exciting, but I am extremely comfortable running my races in a way that lets me continue to do so for as long as possible.
I am inspired by the more competitive runners and I hope that the ones who are going for the gold appreciate that all the lesser gods who run like me or even walk it, and do not "leave it all on the course", really give them more opportunity to shine. Roads will not be closed for races that only include contestants who have a chance at the podium.
