Why do I want to eat something after my meal is finished?

Friday, January 10, 2014

One of my challenges lately is to stop eating after a meal. I'm not talking about a snack a few hours later--I'm talking about right after. Why?? Well maybe in part because I'm not eating dessert, but it's more likely because I'm just used to eating all the time, without limits. So what to do? I really been struggling with this and tonight, I decided to have a cup of tea. Cinnamon spice with a little milk. Delicious! So wonderful-- I'm going out tomorrow and splurge on lots of flavored teas.
I feel like a little lightbulb went off in my head---substitute new healthy choices that are really satisfying in place of old destructive behaviors. I want to remember this feeling so I can do it again and again. After a two month backslide, I'm trying to focus on the present. And right now, I'm happy with my revelation.

I have the same issue--and I've thought about the teas, but have yet to go get them. The cinnamon one sounds really good, though. What brand is it? Great job on getting a good substitute that won't wreck your waistline!

Having a new ending to the meal, such as having tea, is very helpful. In slim cultures, they have that kind of ritual to their meals, as well as portion sizes. And they encourage taking your time. They get down deep that you can't just leave it up to individual devices. They are habits that must be learned, but they are enjoyable! They make eating meals a pleasure, and don't have a lot of other times they eat. And when the meal is over, it's over. emoticon

Those light bulbs are funny things. Isn't it great when they flash!! Go for it.

I have the same problem. I am a late night snacker as well. Last night the desire to eat something or drink a big glass of sweet tea was so overwhelming that I just went to bed early to avoid it. I guess you do what you must to resist those urges. Good luck to you. Be Strong! emoticon
