I am blessed!

Wednesday, January 22, 2014

As part of a challenge this week we were to read an article on imagination and then blog about how we have gotten beyond negative thoughts to have success.

For myself, I think one of my negative thoughts related to my age. I think those of us who are older have caught ourselves walking past a mirror and thinking "Who is that?" or "When did I become my mother" or "How did that happen?"

But you know, when I really started thinking about it.........my mother passed away at 55. I am 73!! My father passed away at 56, I am 73! I AM BLESSED!!! My stepfather and my mother in law were both in nursing homes for several years. I was VERY aware of the residents, so many abandoned there. They would be SO thrilled to see my children and have some interaction with them. I am able to live a full, productive life. I am blessed!

OK - so I am 73. But you know what? I can still walk 2 or 3 miles a day!! I can still do strength exercises! I can still go on vacations, go to sporting events and totally ENJOY life! Yes, I am blessed!

I have 16 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren and I am able to be a part of their lives. I intend to dance at their weddings, Lord willing. In my travels, I have met 14 of my Spark friends in person and loved every one of them. I am blessed!

I remember a little over a year ago taking my first airplane flight at age 71. As I was thanking the pilot when we got off the plane, I told him it was my first flight. He looked at me and said "First flight EVER?" Yes indeed it was, and why not??? I CAN, therefore I WILL! And that includes all aspects of my life.

I will get my weight where I want it, I will exercise on a regular basis. I will enjoy life to the fullest! Sure, I have aches and pains that go along with aging, but that will not deter me, and now when I look in the mirror I smile and say "Hello lucky lady, you are blessed!!"

I REALLY enjoyed this blog! So much of life is about perspective and you have caused me to reflect again at all the positives in my life.
You inspire me to be like you when I reach your age (which I know will come quicker than I think!)
    Thanks for being a blessing!

You are blessed. You are a v. special lady...so kind and thoughtful and caring. You deserve all the happiness life has to offer. You seek happiness and give it out at the same time.

Joyce, my Twin, thank you for reminding me to NEVER think OLD!! I too sometimes fret over how my "youthful face" has turned into that of an older woman and how my once trim body now shows signs of "aging" but by golly I've made it my goal to live to be 100 and in order to achieve that I too must ALWAYS count my blessings, stay fit and healthy and most of all have a zest for life.

Thanks my dear friend for your wonderful blog and thanks for being one of MY BLESSINGS in my life...

Thank you, Joyce, for a wonderful blog! You are truly blessed with all those grandchildren and great grandchildren! Wow! And they are mighty lucky to have you!
On some days I feel sorry for myself, having to work soooo hard at age 65, 10 and sometimes 12 hours a day at a very stressful job but then again I am blessed that I have this job, have my mind to multitask which I need to do everyday and I am able to contribute financially to the household. All good and I plan to live for many years to come. We certainly are blessed!

Great blog! I voted for it.

I have had that thought recently when I look in the mirror and see my mother's face looking back at me. It's a wierd feeling. Your blog reminds me I need to go visit my mom in assisted living as soon as I'm able with my chemo.

Way to go on all your exercise. Doing what you are doing in your 70's will help you do it in your 80's and beyond.

This is tremendous, Joyce!!! I am honored to be your Spark friend, and who knows, perhaps someday we will meet in person.

Years ago, my brother attended the funeral of a friend's grandmother. I am not sure how old she was when she died (probably about 80), but I remember him saying that when the rabbi delivered the eulogy, he observed that she first got her driver's license when she was 65. Of course, as my brother noted, the rabbi nicely left out the fact that she was a terrible driver, LOL. But this was an example of how she wasn't afraid to try new things. I frequently think about how my own parents, who were relatively young when I was born (in their 20s), always kept their distance and wouldn't really play with us even when we were kids.

Yes, you are blessed. Aiyden is such a cutie pie!!! And it seems like you are in excellent health. It sort of surprises me that you only took your first plane trip about a year ago, but hey, I like to drive, too!!! emoticon

    emoticon Blog Joyce~~
And I think you are right on about getting older being one of the worse negatives us *women* have in our life~
    We should be like men~~~LOL
They walk down the street with a beer belly & a bald head and STILL think they are God's Gift to Every Woman they meet! ( they certainly do not think negatively about themselves eh?)
