A step in the right direction

I entered this past weekend with a combination of enthusiasm and anxiety. We had a wonderful engagement party for my son and his fiancée that I have been enthusiastically planning for months. However, major anxiety set in last week as I recognized that this was going to involve not only family, friends, and fun, but food and drinks as well. And historically, a big event (well, actually any event) is often the first step toward disaster for me. So I started taming the beast within me about a week ago, and set my intentions:
1. I will go to the gym early in the day.
2. I will eat a meal before I leave the house.
3. I will plan to eat and drink one beer and up to 4 vegetable appetizers
4. I will have lots and lots of fun at the party.
And guess what? I did all of the above! And the next morning, I went to the gym with my daughter and we talked all about the night before, which made it even more fun.
A small but significant step in the right direction and I am happy that I made a conscious decision ahead of time, and did not let that creepy saboteur get the better of me. Nothing earth-shattering, but kind of a big deal for me.
