Celebrate, celebrate....dance to the music!!! Who remembers that song???

Thursday, April 03, 2014

If you know which song I am referring to, it has probably gone off in your head already. I hope it doesn't get "stuck" there for you - lol. Of course, there are worse song lyrics to get stuck - ha ha ha ha.

Sometimes, it can be tough to come up with creative ways to celebrate. Here are some ideas for folks that are how to celebrate their successes when they meet a goal, or find they have created a STREAK that supports their healthy lifestyle, or even when we achieve something throughout our lives -- promotions, a new love interest, kids, graduations, going on vacation -- whatever it may be.

I have pulled together a list of celebrations that others have suggested and added a few more. I have also made sure there are some "budget conscious" suggestions for those out there like me who have a shoe-string budget :) This is just a list of suggestions, but I would love to have you send me any ideas you may have so that I can add to my list :)

** A new outfit
** Earrings or jewelry
** Hair clips
** Manicure/pedicure: For those on a budget, see if you have a local beauty school. They have the students do these at a fraction of what a salon costs
** New haircut
** A massage: Budget idea - local massage schools also have students do these SUPER cheap
** New running shoes
** New lingerie - something sexy or pretty or even practical....I know my "girls" are shrinking along with everything else....ha ha ha
** Fitness equipment - i.e. new workout video, Spark Tracker, weights, yoga mats, etc.
** Something for the community -- like making gift baskets for a group of people you will be seeing, or visiting a local nursing home or hospital, or volunteering at church for an up-coming event
** A new book, or even a reader like a Kindle or a Nook
** Go see a movie that is coming out which you really want to see
** Download a new music playlist
** Find events and activities in your area that are free (free days at the museums, the zoo, free Art Walks if you have an art district in your city, etc). You can usually do a GOOGLE search for free or cheap activities in your area.
** Invite some friends over for a get together to play cards, games, watch a movie. Make it a "healthy" pot-luck and encourage folks to bring something they like that is healthy to share.
** Plant something to commemorate the occassion. I personally planted a new herb barden when I successfully completed our March Fitness Madness Challenge :)
** A cheap and fun option for animal lovers is to get an old-fashioned fish-bowl and a goldfish
** Buy a candle and set up a Celebration Display. You can add a candle each week and then light the candles everytime you add one to the collection and watch the spark spread with every victory. You can even continue this beyond our challenge to include other achievements in your journey to be healthy and active. Get creative and add all kinds of different things to the collection that support your new journey in health and wellness like collages, stones you collect on walks, print-outs of positive and encouraging comments from other people, etc.

This is a HUGE list!!!! Sorry for the length of it, but it should definitely get folks started on different ways to celebrate the achievements in our lives --whatever they may be :)

Great list! Thank you. I'm with April; I'm a fan of buying workout clothes. For hitting my 20 pound mark, I bought myself a new running skirt. :)

Some other rewards people might enjoy are getting a henna tattoo (they last about 10 days & are really beautiful), giving themselves permission to take time to do an art or craft they haven't done in awhile, flying a kite at the park, playing tourist in their home city for a day to do/see the attractions of the place they live, or, come summer, playing in the sprinklers.

New workout clothes is one of my favorites. And also buying a day pass to a local spa. This is less expensive than people think. If there is a big hotel with a spa in your area, you can buy a day pass for usually about $20 or so. This entitles you to use of the pools, jacuzzi, sauna, quiet room with cucumber water, relaxing music, etc. It's a lovely way to spend a day at a spa without shelling out the big bucks for the services like massage or pedicure etc.

Our local health unit has a lot of free things to make you healthier. I am doing a steps for balance, with speakers about things that affect your balance, then a healthy snack, then 45 min. of Tai Chi. FREE. They have more free options too. So check your health department on line and see what they have.

I am a fan of buying new music when I reach goals because new music at the gym is a bonus! That's a wonderful list!
