Yesterday was my first time at a chiropractor. Several days ago, while getting a haircut, free massages were being offered right there---as a way of attracting new customers to the chiropractor's office. I LOVED the massage!! And one follow-up visit and x-rays was offered for just $20. That's a deal too!
So I went---not really expecting that I would ever actually become a patient---although the massages are WONDERFUL and not so expensive! One look at my spine x-rays though---gulp! I should have known since I've had lower back pain since my 40's. Usually I get muscle relaxants from the doctor, but nobody has ever x-rayed my spine. One time I had a physical therapist tell me that I have "flat back"--where at the bottom of the spine, instead of curving, the spine is straight. Well, I've got several weird things going on---plainly visible. We lucked out, and insurance will cover about 90% of it, since it's obvious from the x-rays that there's a huge necessity. Otherwise I couldn't even try it. I told him I can go for 2-3 mile walks, but can't stand in place for more than about 10 minutes (doing dishes is tough.) Turns out where the spine is going the wrong way, the discs are almost bone-on-bone compressed---plainly visible on the x-ray. He's working on getting the curve back in, which will lengthen the space between discs.
I never thought I'd go to a chiropractor, but after 2 visits, I'm sold. I feel about 20% better already, even though it's early yet, and he thinks that in one month he can have me pain free. Woot! He's also into nutrition, probiotics, and things like that. Feels different than going to a doctor who mainly puts you on prescriptions.
I think I'm sold!
