Bugs Bug Me...

Tuesday, June 03, 2014

We got our rain last night and the garden and grass responded immediately to it. We've been plagued with those fish flies that look like maxi-mosquitoes.

Millions of them, now in heaps all over. Much like the Fish Fly Plagues we got when I lived near Belle River, Ontario. Like a plague of Locus. YUK!

Fish Flies everywhere... AKA May Flies

Had to turn the AC on to get rid of the humidity, even though it's a mild 27f. outside. Humidex factored in says it's feels like 33f. That's like 90f. for my U.S. friends. This is normally July / August temps. Cooler tomorrow, back to normal for June.

I rarely rant on, but I thought I'd share this with you. Bugs are my bane.... Anyway, I'm staying inside and catching up on my to-do housework list, today. Hope you're having a good day too.

Oh no... bubble wrap.... there goes my days work... emoticon emoticon

R>Okay, I know from an intellectual standpoint that bugs are necessary for a great many things, but the ICK factor when they swarm like that is just too great. My first year living in New Orleans taught me a great deal about a variety of bugs previously unknown to me, namely cockroaches, palmetto bugs, and termites. Cockroaches are everywhere; palmetto bugs will fly RIGHT at you, and termites SWARM. Thank GOD the food was great in New Orleans!!

guck! I bet there are certain insect eating birds that are living high on the hog right now, tho! when I worked at cedar point (right on lake erie) we had swarms of these off and on. they were everywhere. fortunately ours didn't have any mouthparts, so you didn't have to worry about bites. just about them flying up your nose, in your eyes, in your hair, squishing underfoot etc--all the fun stuff.
    have a great day!

Wow! That sure is a whole lotta bugs! You need to bring in a huge flock of whatever kind of birds eat those bugs. We have tent caterpillars where I live this year. They only come about once every ten years but they'll kill all your deciduous trees if you don't control them. This must be year of the bugs or something! emoticon

Yes the bugs are out and I HATE them!!!! The mosquitoes are voracious this year, perhaps because they got a late start, the deer flies and horse flies and just plain house flies, not to mention all the other creepy crawlies (earwigs, yuck)
My mare can't stand the bugs either, she goes crazy.....it is the only thing that will complain about in the summer, ......I need your bubble wrap....desperately!!!! emoticon

Yup on the bubble wrap. I was hoping the bugs wouldn't be too bad this year since we had such a cold Winter, unusual for Arkansas. I think they'll fool us.
