Depressed and trying to make a come back

Wednesday, June 18, 2014

I have not made a blog entry or done very much posting for awhile. I have been very depressed and stressed. I have gained weight. I still walk and keep adding steps with fitbit but I eat too much. Its been hard for me since my oldest son is still not speaking to me, I lost my mom to cancer, two of my teens are having problems, finances have been hard because of reduced hours at work due to low patient census. My son Kyle was supposed to graduate last May. Because hes lazy and unmotivated he has 2 more on line credit recovery courses to do before he can graduate. I had to pay $160 for those. He had 3 other credit recovery courses before this one. He won't work, doesn't get up until 2 or 3 in the afternoon, and I have to beg him to work on his high school courses. His dad and I usually have a great marriage but we have had arguments over Kyle. My daughter Elizabeth has had depression and a explosive temper since my mothers death. I haven't figured out all the answers to all these problems yet but I'm going to try to manage my stress better. I'm going to quit eating for comfort. I'm going to come up with a list of things to do when stressed- take a walk, post a blog, talk to a friend etc. I'm going to stay in touch with friends instead of withdrawing into myself. If anyone has any support or advice to offer I would appreciate it.

Thinking of you. Wish I had some wise words to offer but I think many of the other comments sound more useful then anything I could say! emoticon

I hope things change for you. Can you go out even with you husband or a friend or close relative for a cup of coffee? It sounds like you are overwhelmed. I would have drawn a line in the sand with your boy - it sounds like he needs to buckle down and learn that there are consequences. I know that might sound hard but he should at the very least not ignore his studies,

Do you have any support near you?

Do you have anyone you can talk to and physically connect with? Co-worker? Church? Friends? Take time for yourself and try to find a uplifting friend or small group.

You have a lot going on and I will be praying for you.

    Take Care!!!!!

I've been laying low too. I let myself get lax with my eating and exercise and knew it would get better when the situation gets better. It's just a part of life that we have rough spots and we are going to react normally by letting some things go for a while. I know that you will get on track. Doing what you can now, even if it's not all you would like to do, is still a positive step. Believe me, you are still making progress to be doing what you can when you can. As far as Kyle, if he just passes, that will be great. So what if he only gets 60%, it will be enough to pass. Later on he'll just have to figure things out. Take care and be kind to yourself.

Depression is a horrible thing, thanks so much for sharing with us.
Sometimes you just can't help people, they need to find it in themselves to do it.
I'm so sorry for all you are going through but I know from past blogs you are a lovely woman and really care about your family.
Maybe you could go and talk to a professional, I know there are some who can really help to put things in perspective and give you aids of how to think and what to do.
Dd went to someone after she was attacked and is doing so much better.
I know money can be hard to find for ourselves but you deserve to be happpy and relaxed.

Karen, during my parents' decline, I did 2 things:

    1) I spoke throughout the day to God and asked for direction so I wouldn't make matters worse.

    2) I lined up a behavior therapist to coach me. This was very useful because she helped me find options.

Karen, I know the feeling in that I suffer from depression and it's so hard to get up when you feel you are in the bottom of the depression well. Try to put yourself first because you can't change a lot of the things going on (some things are up to other people to change). I know the more I move, the better I feel. So there are times when I have to MAKE myself move, even though it seems impossible to do. Moving is one of the main things that helps me and when I do move, then I see to have more strength to eat better and take better care of myself. emoticon emoticon

Oh dear Karen, the only advice I can give you is to take care of yourself! I can imagine how difficult it must be in such a difficult, sad and stressful context, but please try to. I am thinking of you and sending lots of hugs from Paris! emoticon
