PTC - Year 2
Sunday, August 24, 2014
Like last year, I signed up for the Portland to Coast Walking Relay race... Our entire team returned from last year, and I agreed to the same legs of the race I walked (since I knew the route). I wanted to train for it, to see if I could beat my times from last year, but time just didn't allow for training. I actually haven't been working out nearly as much as I should be anyway, and have put back on some of the weight I had lost. Anyway, I got home last night so tired I could barely move, and didn't even get online to share my results.
I am sore, having put muscles to work that I had forgotten I even had. My butt hurts, my quads hurt, my back and shoulders are screaming at me (even though I was WALKING). But, I managed to finish the race, and am in better shape than last year. Last year, I could barely move the day after! This year, I am just really sore.
So, onto the results. Without training ahead of time, I figured I wouldn't even come close to my results from last year. I was not as fast, but not nearly as far off as I thought I would be. Here is how it stacked up:
Year Leg Distance Time Min/Mile
1 20 5.75 miles 1:23:25 14.52
2 20 5.75 miles 1:30:48 15.74
1 32 4.09 miles 56:29 13.78
2 32 4.09 miles 1:00:23 14.63
So, overall, 4 minutes longer on the shorter route, and almost 7 minutes slower on the longer route. Not great, but considering the lack of training this year, and the fact that I am not nearly as sore, I am happy with my performance.
We also learned that a couple of our teammates will not be on our team next year, which makes me sad. Half the reason I participate in this is because of the people I get to spend this time with. So, I guess I have a decision to make for next year.
