~Healing after losing a loved one~

Monday, February 16, 2015

Today marks the day you left this world. I remember it so vividly. As I held your hand and you breathed your last, then slipped away into eternity, I felt a peace surround me like never before. I had just gained my guardian angel and Heaven had just gained the best man I ever knew.

Although you are not here on this earth, I know you are with me. I miss you more than words can express. It's not the same without you. I miss hearing your voice and having you hug and kiss me, telling me everything will be okay. They sure don't prepare you for this in school!

I am making you this promise today, January 16, 2015. I am going to work very hard to lose the extra weight I have gained. I know you want me to be healthy for the kids, so I promise that I will get back in shape and live healthy.

I love you and miss you terribly! Until we meet again...

I'm very sorry for your loss. I lost my dad to lung cancer in 1980. I lost my sister to cancer 3 years ago. It was during her final months that I began to regain my weight and I'm now trying to get motivated to get back to goal. Thanks for adding me as a friend.

Welcome to the Spark family. Keeping in mind that we did not get in the shape we are or were in over night...we must remember that this is a journey. Good or bad, habits don't happen over night. It takes time to create the habit.

Very tender blog about your dad...

I want to invite you to join the SparkPeople's Official Healthy Habits Challenge Team
There you will find others that will support you in your journey and you will be able to help others as well.

    We are here to help.

Thank you for the encouragement. I started to put on these 50 lbs when daddy got really sick in Oct. He was diagnosed 12/14/12 with stage 4 small cell lung cancer, COPD, and emphysema. As he responded well to treatment and went into remission in 2013, I lost a good bit of weight from my 2nd pregnancy. However, as 2014 progressed, so did his cancer. When it came back, it did so with a vengeance. In late Oct his health began to deteriorate and I began to comfort myself with food. I traveled back and forth from my home in TN to my parents' home in FL several times from Oct to Jan, staying for weeks at a time. After his passing, I knew he would not want me to be in the condition I had allowed myself to get in, so I am getting back on the wagon.

Until SP, I have never had a real support system for losing weight. It's very exciting knowing that there are real people behind these comments that are going through the same struggles I am. How awesome it is to login and see you have mail with encouragement in each one. What a motivator!

Thank you to all who have commented. I truly appreciate it and hope that I can be an encourager for you as well.

I lost my younger in Sept., she will have turned 49 on the 28th of this month. The closer it gets to her birthday the harder it is to stay motivated. My dad passed away the end of March 2010 and my sis was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer that same year. I have gained on and off during her struggle with the illness, when the Drs. told her they could no longer help her and she had 3 wks to 2 months I really put the weight on then, after her passing I became despondent and comforted myself with food. I am exercising now and watching what I eat, my goal is to get healthy for my kids and grandkids. I am still up and down with emotions but dealing with it in different ways other than food.

Good luck on your journey, I am so sorry for your loss.

I lost my mom just about a year ago. She (and my father) made me the person that I am today. I feel that I must continue to honor them through my life. I try to be the best person that I can be.

Welcome to SP and thanks for adding me as a friend. Sparkfriends are great motivators and keep us moving.
