A New Challenge

I finished the Small Changes Challenge and am now doing the Healthy Habits Reset Challenge. I think it will reinforce some of the changes I have made. For my main goal I have decided I will move at least 5 minutes during every hour between 8 AM and 8 PM. I think one of the main reasons I gained weight over the years was from being a couch potato whenever I could. A lot of the time spent in my recliner in the evenings was spent grading papers, entering grades on the computer, responding to students emails about their writing, and planning for the next day. (plus doing email, facebook, playing games and reading). Most of these were things I needed to do, but I think breaking it up with 5 to 10 minute breaks of activity might have helped a lot. I retired from teaching last spring, but I still substitute a couple of days a week and watch my grandson one day. I noticed that although I would get my walk or scheduled exercise in (which I didn't while still teaching) after dinner and dishes I was a couch potato. And on days I was home all day, I spent too much time sitting around.
So for my 5 to 10 minutes each hour I will do one of the following: cleaning tasks (clean toilet, shower, dust, sweep kitchen, etc.-never an end to an opportunity here), pulling weeds, walk in the garden and plan what needs to be done or do short gardening chores, take out trash or compost, do dishes, do a short exercise video. I figure if I can do this for the length of the challenge, I should have reset my habit.
