I want to be a triathlete.....

Voted Popular Blog Post: View All Popular Posts

Thursday, April 02, 2015

First of all, thank you all of my Spark friends for the "goodies" and encouraging words for my triathlon, which was last Sunday. Having the support of others gives me such a big boost.

Unfortunately, I was not able to finish the race.....the uphill biking was a lot tougher than I thought it would be. So, I am back in training and will try the same course in the fall, when they have another race at the same location.

But, here are some pictures that my DH took.
I am sitting at the top of the slide, waiting for the timer to tell me to go.

He tried to get a picture of me just before I went into the water, but only got my feet! LOL!

T1, getting ready to bike.

After I biked; I was really ready to leave.

I bought this shirt to wear after I finished, but, since I didn't complete the course, I will hold on to it until I am successful, then wear it with pride!

dont be too hard on yourself! You've trained and gave it your absolute all! Next time you'll knock that race on its butt! Id still wear the shirt if I were you... Id wear it when I trained and let my body know I AM a triathlete -sooner or later!

At 60 I did my first sprint tri ~ It was inspirational. I had to get off my bike and walk up that blasted hill! But I did it and I walked most of the 3 mile run. But I finished! Proud.
DO NOT GIVE UP ~ I thinik the training for the tri is just as important as doing it. You have put in long hours, spend time working on your diet fitness, and your mental toughness has improved. I appreciate your not wanting to wear your shirt, You may want to reconsider and wear it when you are in training. Girl, you have to be proud! Get out there and find another one to sign up for and get her done!
May I friend you so I can watch your progress?
Since my first I've done 2 more. After a horrible car accident, I'm out of that business, but I love the spirit of training for an event! Makes you young! emoticon

If I were you that would be my training shirt. You are a triathlete, and in the fall you will be an even stronger triathlete.

think about it, if you only got to call yourself a player if you played in the contest, there are a lot of people on teams who never make it into a game. They are still athletes. You are a tri-athlete, even if you only made it through 2/3, you are still in training.

Remember, Ohio State won the National Football Championship this year with a quarterback who never expected any time on the field. He trained just as hard as the two guys ahead of him, and when they were injured, he was the 'new leader'. You'll have your time. Just keep plugging away at it.

And, I like that you have photos of the experience.

Between you and me, I am a former college athlete who is scared to death of even trying to run! You inspire me.

I like your attitude! Good job getting out there, and also kudos for knowing when to stop. Not worth finishing if it strains you so you can't workout for months after!

I'm sure your race in the fall will be a triumph.

Yes, a hilly course for cycling could have been a bit too much for you first triathlon. Then the run would have been hilly as well. I love your spirit and determination. Do NOT give up. Keep training, take your time and you will finish the next one. You can do this. Keep training. Best of luck to you.

Reading yoru last couple of blogs, I have a little insight into what it takes to do something like this: amazing physical stamina / strength, determination, discipline, and goodness knows what else. My hat's off to you girl.

I look forward to reading more about your continued preparation, training, and the next event. I KNOW you will do this. You are so inspiring to me. All the best.

You can so do this. You tried and that means so much. It's better to have tried versus dreaming and never seeing it into fruition.

A hilly course would be a tough first attempt! I would like to do a trip someday. Couldn't go for speed because I don't bike or swim regularly, and run for distance more than speed, but I'd still like to try it. Congrats for getting out there!

Pam, even to try this is WAY more than most of us will likely ever do!!!

I find this to be incredible!!! U gave it ur best!!! That's the most we can do.

Now between now and the fall, u know cause ur smart and have done this before, it takes all u can give while training. I know you love to socialize, be with the grands, but if u truly want this, most train for hrs at a time, with only a few days of resting their muscles. We r so very positive if u want this bad enough u WILL achieve your goals.

Can you and Diane train by long distance, encouraging each other? I've not checked, but one of the ACTIVE running teams may help you with the training. Worth checking it out

Girl, you did your BEST! If you look in God's Word, that's all He asks of us is our BEST! Our BEST changes from day to day, as we may be sick, angry, depressed, or over joyed, therefore, our BEST changes each day. God knows that we're flawed and we're in human bodies, that wear out, so He knows that our BEST will change. So, if all God asks of us is to do our BEST, nobody has any right, not even you, to ask anything more than what God does. So, Girl, emoticon and emoticon !!!! You did your BEST and I'm proud of you!

    Blessings!
