Reflecting Back On Seven Years With Sparkpeople!

Thursday, May 07, 2015

I have to say, this is probably the longest I have ever stuck with anything, so there has to be something to it. I think first and foremost are the friendships that are formed. Some came and went, but I have also made some friends that I am sure will be friends for life; Jen, Dedrie, and Darlene, to name a few. There are way too many to name them all, but I met my Significant Other online over 18 years ago and we are still together, so it stands to reason that I will still be communicating with a lot of you for years to come.

Aside from the social aspect, I really use the tools and read blogs for motivation. Because of SparkPeople, I started walking for my health. That lead to jogging and I joined C25K to learn how to get ready for a 5K race. I became one of the Co-Leaders of that team and entered my very first race at age 60. During that time, I also became a certified running coach. I competed in 5Ks, 10Ks and three half marathons. Now that my knees are giving me trouble, I don't compete like I used to, but I do love doing the virtual races because it gives me that since of competition without the financial outlay for an in person race. I push myself just as hard and I get some real gratification when I have completed one (albeit a lot slower pace than I used to do).

We recently celebrated our one year anniversary at Camp WannaBeFit and that has been a wonderful team to be associated with. I don't feel any pressure, but get all the benefits of belonging to a group of fun campers. It motivates me to do cardio and ST training and eat a clean diet.

As you can imagine, over the seven years, although my weight continued to go up and down, I finally learned the healthy benefits of eating a clean food. I did the Whole30 several times and still use a variation of it today. I am pleased to say that my blood pressure in normal, my cholesterol is normal and I don't have any signs of a "fatty liver" which I had when I first joined. My BMI is also in the healthy range and my % of body fat has dropped below 20%.

So, if I was able to accomplish all that in seven years, Bring On The Next Seven!

Congrats on 7 years. I too am at the 8 year mark this summer. So many wonderful people on here, its hard to keep up. I did my 5K in 2007, and it was in Seattle and it was actually about 3.2 or more? in the last .25 mile I tore my miscues and it took 9 months to heal. If I run on my TM I can feel its reminder. So I do what I can. Maybe someday I will find someone to do a 5K again. It was a blast. Rain and all.

Heres to the next SEVEN :).

NPR.org did a Radio Broadcast, which says it takes 7 years to establish weight loss and maintainance. And you are living proof! I am really glad I met you here, and happy for all you share. I cannot wait until I reach maintainance. I am coming off of an upswing.
You are so right about the friendships. They help keep the ship afloat!
    Carry On!!!!
    and as an inspiration...
    Thanks for Coming!!!
