I have hesitated to write this blog. The vast majority of SparkPeople members are 100% awesome. There is always one or two though that wants to criticize your methods. Of those few - some do it out of nothing but love and true concern, but some folks just like to put down anything they don’t fully understand. Now - having said all that - what am I trying?

Well, I am - with my doctor’s blessings and guidance - trying a liquid diet. I have been on it a few days and feel awesome. The doctor wants me to go two or three weeks at a time on it and see how it goes.

I am very excited about how I am feeling and how my clothes are fitting. (yes I do realize that I am losing some water weight - but I am not carrying THAT much water- at least that’s what Doc says)

Ok - now - for what I am actually eating/drinking. I am making my own shakes out of Carbmaster Yogurt, unsweetened almond milk, protein powder and liquid Splenda. I can make all kinds of different flavors from this!

I will update as I go along. I know this is not a long term solution but both my Dr and I believe that this will be beneficial for me.

Stumbled upon this blog and gotta say - Ditto on King_Slayer's comment!!!
Didn't know he had even commented here until I scrolled down to comment, myself. Anyway, he is a good friend and a very wise spark buddy of mine, as well.

So, anyway, this is YOUR program and you owe no one an explanation as to why you're doing it! If it's working for you - then it's working - period! Ya just gotta BLOCK the naysayers outta your mind. emoticon

Oooops, just saw that this blog is from May. Sorry this is so late in coming. Anyway, hope you will update soon. emoticon

emoticon Good for you!! Doing something is better than doing nothing which is what I have been doing. I finally decided to follow the WW flex plan which is what worked for me before before my life fell apart. So today is #6 for me but it is working because I feel comfortable with it.
I agree with many others, you have your Drs help and it is what works for you! ENOUGH SAID. emoticon emoticon

Hi Kathy - just saw your blog featured in one of my older emails (going through erasing duplicates!)... The liquid diets do work for awhile and sometimes it's just helpful getting 5% of the weight off, just a small step!! It's kinda like fasting, and there have been a lot of recent info on that, but from what I've been reading in my own journey is that sometimes with other health issues, the fasting really can't be done long term until a person is in a better physical shape. Definitely needs to be monitored by a doctor who is actually familiar with fasting techniques, or in this case, using the liquid diets.

I've been on a few liquid diets of various sorts in the past and eventually sorted out for myself that Splenda and Sucralose were not my friends - too many headaches and other issues. So Stevia is my pal now - I have to watch though, because the big corporations are trying to cut it down to a cheaper grade by adding dextrose or other gunk. I had to do a lot of reading and experimenting with Stevia as I wasn't crazy about it at first. But it works well for me at this point in time...

The liquid diets I really liked in the summer because it was TOOO hot to put out the energy to make some fabulous home cooked meal!! But...for me, I kept getting bored after a few days of not having something to chew !! I'm strange, I guess. I think if I was doing it again, I'd give myself permission to have as many liquid meals as I wanted, and then a "chewable" meal like veggies or legumes or something, and then go back on it. That's something I've thought about - especially since last year I was doing a bit of juicing and/or blended smoothies (there are plusses and minuses to both juicing and smoothies so far as fruits and veggies go.). But I do have a special place for yogurt, for sure!!

Anyway hope it is going super well for you and just keep at it, and let your doctor know if something is out of whack. Sometimes there's just changes as the body adapts to the "new changes" and you might need to tweak it, more veggies or less fruit? And avocados are a healthy fat that add a really yummy creaminess to a liquid meal!!

    Take care!!

NEVER ever allow any one to make you their victim!! You do what works for you not for any one else. I am going to go back on my drinking from the special drinks from my Nutri Blast system. I had others say negative on that, when I mentioned it. I look at them and say do what works for you ,you are not me. I need a jump start to get me going and this works for me!! Cheers to you my sweet sparkie !!!

I've known several people who have had great success with medically supervised liquid diets. Sounds to me like you know what doing so don't listen to the naysayers; this is between you and your doctors. You know yourself well and you will be okay.

Hope you are having a good Memorial Day weekend. I'm trying to be true to my plan and remember that the day is NOT about the food!

The black diamonds seem long ago and far away but I still miss them.

I think that it's good to follow what your doctor says for you to do! There was a point when my doc wanted me to go on a liquid diet but it was specific and expensive and that is the reason I turned it down. I wish you all the success in the world!

I am so impressed! I am glad you shared this with us so we can support you! There is
always someone who thinks they have the answers for your problems...nothing wrong with suggestions, but you can tell the difference! You are the one making decisions for you...and, along with everyone else, you have your doctors support, which is great so you have guidance! It sounds very healthy and good! I am sure at some point you will learn to incorporate regular food back into your eating plan, maybe only one meal, and nothing says these healthy shakes won't be useful to you the rest of your life!
You have my support...GO GIRL emoticon

    Kat,

It's so good to hear from you! You sound AMAZING and in good health and I'm delighted to see that!

Hey, you have your doctor that's watching out for you and right now this is a beneficial thing for you, and I say GO FOR IT!!! However, would you consider sharing some of those recipes with me? I'm drinking so many smoothies, as my parents gave me a book, and so far it's just the fruit smoothies, but they're good and the most calories I've had in one is about 213 calories.

    Blessings!

Good luck and if this works for you, then I am happy for you. Remember to take it one day at a time. You didn't put the weight on overnight, so don't expect overnight results. Glad you have a doctor that you can trust. You can do this. Bev

There's on old saying "if something is stupid but it works, then it's not stupid". This falls directly into that category. People think that a liquid diet is stupid, but it works and does exactly what it is intended to do, kick start weight loss. There are thousands of people that can only consume liquid diets due to health reasons and they do just fine. If somebody doesn't like what YOU are doing, they are free to not do it themselves but they should keep their comments to themselves!
