How far would you travel to exercise?

I live in a small community in southern AZ, near the international border w/ Mexico. There is no where to swim where we are; no community pool, no fitness club. So, I drive to a fitness club in Tucson to swim twice a week. It was okay when I was working, since my office was 3-4 miles down the road from the club, but, now that I am retired, it is a ways to travel.
I have been ill for almost 2 weeks and have not done ANY exercise in that time. My plan today was to go to the pool, although I knew it would be a short swim without "going all out" as I am still recuperating. As I was finishing my swim after 19 minutes, I thought about the time it took me to get there.....I drove an hour (one way) to swim 19 minutes? Is it worth it?
To me, yes it is! I am trying to train for a triathlon, which so far isn't working out for me. I missed a tri this past weekend and will not be well enough to compete in Syracuse, NY in 3 weeks either. But, besides from the tri training, I am also concerned for my health. I have been ill (a lot) recently and pick up all sorts of nuisance germs easily. Not sure why, but can not seem to get well and stay that way, so driving an hour to get in a short swim is well worth the time and distance. This is MY HEALTH that I need to improve, and swimming is a great way to "get it done"!
