This evening around 7:00 I decided I really needed a nice long walk to end a day of meeting schedules. We had church from 10 to 12:30, lunch and free time until 3:30, visit with Mom until 5:00 , visitation at funeral home, then dinner at local restaurant and home again. It was still about 90 degrees , but, I felt I just had to get out for a walk so I dressed in my coolest clothes, got my phone and ear plugs , set my
and I was ready.
It was hot
but I was ready and needy for exercise. The first 15 minutes went well, but the next few minutes everything went awry. Something black and buzzing came into view and tried attacking me. I slapped at it, danced around and finally (forgetting my bad knee) took off running to get away from it.
I lost the race and got nabbed and if you have ever been stung or bitten by one of these you know how bad it hurt. I have two huge whelps that itch like the dickens and I didn't get to finish the walk. Here's an example of the creature.
Horseflies are at least three times larger than a regular housefly and are agressive and do not give up on their subject. A lesson I learned tonight!
