Taking off the SPAT for awhile!

I feel totally defeated. Have been having trouble with my right foot for about 6 weeks now. Saw my primary care physician 4 weeks ago and she pretty much said it was just my body breaking down as I'm getting older (varicose veins causing blood to pool in my foot). Since the pain wasn't going away I decided to see a podiatrist, who had x-rays taken to find a fracture in my foot.

I am now spending the next who knows how long putting NO WEIGHT on my right foot. I'm not even sure in what world that's a possibility. I have a physical therapy session planned to teach me how to walk with crutches and will have surgery in the next couple of weeks to put a pin in my foot to help it heal faster. Faster to me is something in the neighborhood of 5-6 days; it sounds like faster to the podiatrist is more like 5-6 weeks or more.

Luckily for me, one of my favorite activities is to watch things on TV while knitting - looks like I'll have plenty of time for that. And I've been asking my husband to help out by making dinner every so often - guess I'm going to get my way on that one too. But I've gotten used to walking on the treadmill and watching the steps increase. By the time I come back to some level of normalcy it will be winter in Minnesota again. But I have to be thankful that I was diagnosed so now I can heal - right!

Here's the important thing. You found out what was wrong, and it will be repaired. After you are walking again, the pain will hopefully be gone. I'm glad you went to a podiatrist. I was misdiagnosed until I did too.

I had different surgeries on both feet, and was incapacitated for long periods of time, but got to wear a "boot". Ask about that. They MIGHT let you wear one after a week or two. It keeps your foot secure and you can be mobile.

p.s. Might be good to dump the primary care physician. That was a lousy thing to say to you, and she was wrong.

So glad that they discovered what was causing the pain.
