July 28, 2015.....TOPS Weigh In :)
Tuesday, July 28, 2015
I started eating my lower carb, moderate protein and slightly higher fat plan last Wednesday. My weight the night before at TOPS was 270.5.
I'm trying to keep my calories around 1300 to 1500/day and my carbs around 100 carb grams/day. I know that there are many that eat a lot less carb grams, however considering that up until last Wednesday I was eating on average 600 carb grams/day, I didn't want to shock my system too much!
I'm Type II diabetic and on Metformin, plus 3 Humalog shots, plus one Lantus shot a day. Prior to this new way of eating, it seemed that my insulin requirements were increasing every mealtime. I'm am still very sedentary due to several knee/balance issues, however hope that within a short while as the weight comes off, my ability to walk comfortably and exercise will slowly come back.
I've read many times how low carb eating is THE way to go for diabetics .. why didn't I start earlier? I know there are a lot of excuses/reasons I could give, but bottom line - I don't think I was ready to give up that crutch of so many of my comfort foods that seemed to be calling my name. Silly and stupid.
I was happy tonight when for the first time in many weeks, I stepped on the scale at TOPS and I was down 4.75 lbs! One of the biggest bonuses, is that I have decreased my insulin requirements in one short week to half, and I also am not constantly hungry and craving all the foods (read carbs) that I had been.
Yaaaay me!
