5 Years w/Spark-Lots of Little Changes
Thursday, July 30, 2015
I've made many changes since joining Spark 5 years ago. My weight loss has been slow, averaging 10 pounds a year. However, the scale keeps moving downward with no creep upwards. For me that's practically a miracle. In the past, I had no trouble dropping weight but then I'd gain it all back as quickly as I lost it.
When I started Spark I thought it would be another tool for whatever new diet I was about to try. It soon became clear that Spark was more than a way for me to track calories. I joined teams. I joined challenges. I made friends. And I made changes, small changes that I tracked as streaks.
Some of the changes were small. Others were larger and generally involved changing my attitude. My feelings about food, exercise, and my body have become healthier and have made it possible for me to be happy about where I am. To be grateful about my weight loss no matter how slow because I see so many changes in my life. Positive changes, mostly in my mind but some are very tangible health improvements.
When I was feeling weak I made small goals, changes that I was sure I could master. And even then, sometimes, I struggled but eventually the change become a new habit, then an established habit, part of my every day "normal". Sometimes you have to tweak your goals so that the change you want will happen. And it will happen! Just keep going and be kind to yourself if you stumble.
I've changed so many little things that I no longer feel like a big fat caterpillar. I feel like I've changed into a big, beautiful butterfly!
Thanks to Spark and to my wonderful, supportive and motivating Spark friends!
