Day One and Two
Thursday, August 27, 2015
Well its been awhile since I posted, but I am going to start journaling about my journey as I venture to run a 10k race in April, 2016. Mind you, I haven't done any running since my back surgery 5 years ago, so this is really a scary challenge for me.
Yesterday was Day One. I am following Jeff Galloways training program. It's a run- walk - run program, which focuses on putting the minimum amount of stress on your joints. Yesterday I did 1 mile. I have to keep reminding myself its about the journey and that little steps at a time will lead to great ones.
I train using a NordicTrack x9i Incline Trainer. It's awesome! It has a built in tablet that uses Google Maps and you can basically run anywhere. They have programs (many are free) with certain destinations that you can choose where you want to run and the tablet, during the workout, will show you slides of the path you are traveling! Really cool! The other nice feature the treadmill has is that it adjusts to the terrain. So it will actually incline and decline depending on the course you are on. If you are looking into buying a treadmill for your home, I would definitely highly recommend this one.
Yesterdays destination was Tulum, Mexico in a Mayan city. It was really nice to see some of the ruins along the trail. There was also nice beach scenery that was captured along the way.
Day 2 was today. I ran in Mexico again, this time being in the area of Becan. I ran once again around some Mayan ruins. No beaches this time. More like a tropical park. I extended my workout by a little completing 1.26 miles.
Two workouts in a row and still feeling strong! Tomorrow I am going to do some workouts using the FitStar programs. Just about everything I blog on here you can read on my website at live2win.org I actually have some links and information on the RunDisney races. I will post some at the end of this post.
Well, wish me luck and if you to are training for an upcoming race, add me as a spark friend and we can help each other! Listed below is Jeff Galloway's training program for some of the Disney races. This will give you an idea of how the program works.
