Beck Trek Day 11, Changing My Relationship with Hunger
Monday, September 07, 2015
After incorporating the skills learned in this chapter into my life, my relationship with hunger has changed dramatically.
I remember a time when I never felt hunger. Instead, I walked around in a food-induced fog. I numbed my feelings with food, and in so doing, I also numbed my mind.
After my first Beck go-around, and completing this exercise, not only did I become familiar with the feeling of hunger, I became comfortable with it. Now, I even enjoy it. It sharpens my senses. It makes me grateful for the food I eat. And it heightens my enjoyment of it.
When I was in my food-induced coma state, I never felt satisfied, even though essentially I was more than satisfied all of the time. I ate to fill a hunger that was not coming from my stomach, and because it wasn’t, filling my stomach never filled the void that I had.
Now, there is very little more enjoyable than sitting down to a healthy meal after a day filled with running and chores and being truly hungry for it. That, my friends, is satisfaction!
