At least I didn't wait a year...

Hi SparkFriends!

I know that we all are up to *something* in our lives, but lately it seems as if there is little to 'write home about.' Granted, I'll take boring over most of life's more 'exciting' moments, but it still doesn't make for very interesting reading. emoticon

The biggest news (likely) is the passing of my father-in-law. It was long past time and I feel terrible that it's taken this event for my mother-in-law to get on with her life. Sadly she has no idea what is really going on with the finances, and I know that she's in trouble. There's nothing that can be done other than provide ideas and suggestions. Since she and Dad effectively alienated (or pissed off) their friends and family, she really is 'starting over.'

I rode two big bike events in June, and then spent July and August not doing too terribly much. The scale hasn't moved - thankfully, given the lack of high intensity workouts - but I've definitely become softer. I stayed with my strength training, which is a saving grace. I got back into my routine last week and hope to keep the momentum rolling.

I joined the 5% Fall Challenge for the first time. I am excited to learn more about what's involved and how it works. For those of you that are also signed up, let me know so we can cheer for each other! emoticon

I switched assignments in June, following an offer that turned out to be 'too good to be true.' My last day is Friday. emoticon That's why it's great to consult, because nothing good or bad is ever permanent (unless you want it to be). The next thing for me might fall into that category (too good), but it's shaping up to be more of a challenge than anything. The proposal is still in the early stages, so I've got some time off coming.

Yep, time off. Since The Hubster works from home (both of his teaching contracts were renewed), I'll have to find a few ways to stay out of his hair. Fortunately this is an awesome time of year for cycling, so I hope to close out the season with some extra miles. I also have a few knitting projects to work on. Our annual conference is coming up, too. I have a paper and a presentation for the event but, sadly, not on the topic of corn stover. emoticon Maybe next year!

The girls - Shadow and Rascal - are doing very well. Every day we catch them *almost* cuddling. I think it probably happens all the time when we're not home, LOL. They chase and play and generally seem to like each other. It's been a good growing season for catnip and grass, so they're keeping up their green intake, too.

See? I'm running out of material. I warned that there isn't much, short of whining about painful joints and whatnot. There's time for that another day. emoticon

My condolences on the passing of your father-in-law. As my late dad liked to say, "The only constant is change," and it sounds like you have just about the right amount of change in your life right now.

Didn't know you were a knitter, too! Thanks for your words, my virtual friend!

I'm sorry to hear about your FIL. I know it was expected but it is never easy. I hope your MIL is able to get up speed soon. It's never easy to make this adjustment and money problems make it even worse. I will be alone too once my hubby is gone. All my friends moved away and almost all of my relatives have died.

I am also jump starting my weight loss program.

I hope you enjoy your new assignment and your time off.

I'm so glad to hear about Shadow and Rascal! We have lost 4 pets in the last year. It was tough. We have 3 left and I wish Runtster had someone to be friends with but Porkie and Blocker prefer each other and he is the third wheel!!

So glad to hear from you as always!!

Always happy to see your blog. Sorry to hear about your father in law.
Would love to hear more about your cycling. Your big rides, were they road rides, trail rides? do you have rail trails there? Wish I lived near so we could ride together! emoticon
Best wishes on the fall challenge. I was suppose to lose 30 by October 30th. (20 gone, might be pushing it) tell me about your challenge. emoticon

Boring is under rated, I think.

Hope you like the 5% Challenge, I have adopted it as my support for fitness and weight loss, I got off a 2 year plateau for weight loss last fall with the 5% challenge, this time it will be my first on in my second year of these challenges. One of the things I love about them is that you can give it your all for 8 weeks, then have 5 weeks in between challenges to think about how things went and why and what to change for next time.
The challenge - pauses have given me a rhythm that works very well for me.

Happy to hear you are well and doing lots of riding

    Hey, boring is good!! emoticon

I've been doing a lot of riding this year also and I think the weather is finally in my favor to finish up the season with a lot more miles! I'll also be knitting, Christmas is coming!

I'm glad you're trying out the 5% Challenge; once we get started, it's a lot of fun! emoticon
