As many of you know, I have wanted to (successfully) do a triathlon for a long time. I did one in the spring, but could not finish the bike course. I was signed up for 2 during the summer, but due to illness, was not able to compete.
Today, I can call myself a triathlete! I did the "Tri for Kindness" sprint tri in Tucson. It was tough, but I completed it better than I thought I would. Now, a sprint tri is short, but I had no expectations of doing anything "great"; my goal was to finish in under 3 hours. I finished in 2:25, so am very happy.
Our oldest daughter did the tri with me, and it was fun training "together", although all the togetherness was over the phone, as she lives 2 hours from us.
The swim leg went well, although I need more practice to shave some time off.
For the bike, I road my new road bike, which I absolutely love! (I lent my other bike to my daughter).
After biking 13.3 miles, up and down hills, my legs were like jellow, so I walked the entire 5K, until my daughter caught me about 1/2 mile from the finish line, and we ran in together. They even gave me a medal.....LOL!
I bought a shirt in the spring, intending to wear it after that tri. But, I put it away; it will now come out of "storage", because I AM a triathlete!
