Who would have thought I'd be struggling to get enough calories?

I enjoy food. I like to try new recipes. I collect recipes and cookbooks. I like to eat out with friends or family. I like grocery stores. I loved fresh fruits and vegetables from the garden.

As I became less active over the years, I had to watch the calories. Each injury or surgery or new phase of life added pounds. That brought me to Spark.

Since surgery in October this year, everything has been turned upside down. Who would have thought that I'd be struggling to add calories to my diet? Most recently I've been on a clear liquid diet again as I struggle to keep food down. I lost over 40 pounds in November. It was not healthy weight loss. I was in bed most of last week.

I missed Thanksgiving dinner. All together now: "Awwwww...." Hey, I was looking forward to some stuffing. It's the only time I have it all year.

I am starting to add back in a few regular foods as tolerated. I am concentrating on nutrition.

Post-op visit with the oncologist is tomorrow. Please pray that everything goes well.

    I suppose if you eat healthy foods that it may help you heal. When I had an abscess on my foot, the nurse told me to eat blueberry yogurt. Wow!!! it healed so quickly you probably can't even imagine!! Just keep with being healthy. Ill be hoping you get better.

    Sending love and prayers. My mom makes a bone broth that really helps boost white blood cell counts, even through chemotherapy and she takes a lot of tumeric. You may want to research that. Here's to finding a way!!

    I'm so sorry you are struggling like this.

    After I had gastroenteritis (during which I ended up in hospital on a drip) I had to get back to food so slowly, what have you tried and tolerated so far?

    I ate plain yogurt to help my insides get back healthy gut flora, our natural bugs also like banana, which can be smooth and easy to eat as well. I also ate mashed potato, swede (rutabaga?).

    You could try cheese like marscapone, thats very rich, smooth and not salty.
