New Year - Same Determination

Friday, January 01, 2016

Hey Sparkpeeps -

I know its been awhile since I've blogged so let me catch you up. Around Aug. 2014 I had an issue with my left eye. It was misdiagnosed twice as simple pink eye. After the 3rd occurrence I was referred to an Ophthalmologist and it turned out to be Uveitis (which is inflammation in the eye). Then I was told that having Uveitits sometimes is a sign of an Autoimmune disease like Lupus or Rheumatoid Arthritis.

So I went thru treatments trying to fix the issues in my eye but the inflammation wasn't going away as fast as they would like so I had to start taking Steroids (Prednisone). I will admit while on Prednisone that I never felt better and my eye improved.

However Prednisone has side-effects including weight gain (UGH!!!). But what I didn't know was there would be side-effects after I stopped taking the Prednisone.

I took Prednisone for about 7 months and when I stopped I had to wait for it to get totally out of my system to get back to me. Things like my skin being uncharacteristically very dry, my hair being very brittle and my fingernails constantly breaking.

I have been off the Prednisone about 4 months and my skin is finally back to me, I cut 2 inches off my hair, my nails are back to being strong but my biggest challenge is my weight.

I gained 36 pounds while on Prednisone but thank GOD I continued with my fitness or it would have been even more and trust me I have heard horror stories from people who have taken prescribed steroids and the amount of weight they gained so based on what I heard I wasn't awful with the weight gain but I am not happy about it either. The weight gain put me back at 186lbs but I'm so glad I didn't get back to where I start which was well over 220lbs.

I am still having issues with my eye and some mild joint pain so doing things like push ups can be challenging (but not impossible).

So I am bringing the same determination I had when I lost the initial weight to get this weight back off, the same determination I had to keep going on with my fitness in spite of my physical problems and the same determination to get my health in check.

Even though I want to lose the weight I gained, my main goal is to be healthy and fit. So no matter the size Sparkpeeps lets make this an awesome year of health and fitness. Let continue to inspire, keep each other accountable and cheer each other on. Because you just don't know how some days I really didn't feel like it but after seeing my Sparkpeeps doing their "thang" made me get up and do my "thang".

Love Ya - Happy New Year
Tiffany
