The trouble with housework

Saturday, January 09, 2016

Well, the trouble with housework is that I don't like it. Not that I do much, I'm a housework minimalist, you might say. Lick and a promise? Forget the promise, I don't even INTEND to go back and finish it, I mean do it more thoroughly. I can think of much more exciting ways to spend my time, like playing with the cat or logging my carbs.

Housework must be quite good exercise, all that lugging of furniture and bending and stretching must add up to something. My exercise at the moment, though, mostly consists of walking 10K steps a day (which reminds me, I owe yesterday about 3K steps, oops) and housework, while it wears me out, doesn't have much scope for a lot of steps. I don't even have to vacuum any more since I've bought a robot that does that loathsome job for me.

So on housework days, like today, I find I not only have to wear myself out with housework (it's 11.40am and I haven't started yet, except for pressing the button on the robot) but go out for a walk too.

I feel so virtuous about this.

I read my FlyLady.net emails every day, is that "virtuous"? I'm more of the crash and burn, work 2 or 3 hours here and there and then collapse, instead of the 15 minutes by timer. I did finally run a mop through the kitchen, after lo these many many months. I think I found a couple bunny carcasses strung around. Still need to move behind the refrigerator. And go get my laundry off the line too!!

You just made me feel completely comfortable with my own slovenliness! And we have company coming in 3 weeks, so all will be well.

I luckily have a cleaner here, but not in France, but there it's a once monthly thorough sweep and mop.

I am blessed with a husband who likes to vacuum and dust, so I let him:) I will happily cook, do dishes and laundry, he can have the rest!

Think I feel about housework just about the same as you do. Yuck!

It's unanimous - nobody LIKES housework. One thought: under Spark's fitness is a designation for heavy housework. There are times that I work up a real sweat (and heart rate) when I make like a whirlwind and get my house (sort of) clean. At those times, I feel free to claim those minutes as exercise.

Mind you, much of the time I give a lick and a promise - but don't always keep my promises. Ha!

Oh I have robot envy!!! Housework is boring. I tried putting on music to make it less boring. Fail! I am waiting for dust to be thick enough so I can just roll it all up from one corner of the room, but the cat keeps stirring it up. Cat fur balls itself up and I pick THAT up. Counts as housework, correct?

Gee, no one has said they like housework--no surprise there. I need one of those robots! Hope you had a nice walk.

I have several friends that help me do housework. One of them is Lysol (or Clorox) wipes, the kind that pop up. I have them in the bathroom and the kitchen. Love them! My other best friends are the Swiffer wand dusters. I have 2 short ones, one for upstairs and one for downstairs, and I have a telescoping one as well, for those hard to reach places. I hate to vacuum, but I do have an old fashioned dust mop that gets pushed around (I have hard wood floors). I would much rather be doing just about anything than house cleaning!! lol

I don't like it either. So much so that I'd rather move than clean this apartment at the moment. emoticon

I'll do the minimum housework to keep the place clean and tidy.

I want to know whether the robot vacuum works, as I'd love one of those. Does it turn itself off after a circuit of the room? Does it know if it has "missed a bit"? How often do you have to empty it?

I hate it too, but my hubby is a slob! Can't even remember the last time he put anything away.. and his idea of putting dishes in the dishwasher is to place the item on the counter, directly ABOVE the dishwasher.. so I am constantly picking up, wiping up.. tidying up, after him... constantly. I guess I didn't train him very well 40 years ago when we got married!!

I'm with you on housework. I usually get motivated by someone coming to visit. We have friends staying in a couple of weeks, so my house will be clean by then for sure. emoticon

Don't like housework either. I have to divide it into 10 or 15 minute segments or else it's BORING and doesn't get done.
