My Christmas Race!
Monday, January 11, 2016
It was cold, my knees were hurting and I hadn't done a race in a year. All those things added together would make it seem like the last thing you should do at Christmas time is to enter a race. But, this was a special race and I really wanted to see if I could even finish. Originally, I had signed up for a 10K, but as the date got closer, I had a dizzy spell and could not breath very well. It scared me enough to go to the doctor and I do NOT go to doctors. As it turned out, I had what is called Atrial Fibrillation. My blood pressure was high and so was my cholesterol. I told my doctor that I wanted to enter a race, so he did a series of tests; EKG, Echocardiogram and a stress test. I don't know what had caused the dizziness, but I was cleared to do the race. He did suggest that I not do the 10K and do a 5K instead. That was an option and I was able to make the switch before race day. This race was in Clearwater, FL and they were celebrating their Centennial. Because of this, they were awarding Anniversary medals to all finishers. They usually don't award finisher medals for a 5K race, so I really wanted to have one.
I sure wasn't fast, but I started with a smile and ended with a smile.
