For two years I've been a member of a Facebook group called the Protective Diet. The premise of this lifestyle is vegan, no additives, no preservatives, zero fat, no sugar, lots of starch. This past week I learned that I'm 50 lbs overweight and have high blood pressure. Having always tried to maintain a fairly healthy weight (20-30 lbs overweight, but no higher) and having always had low blood pressure, this was a bit of a shock for me. Since lurking in the group wasn't working for me I decided to try it full on for three months.
The one thing I really like about this diet is that I am always full and satisfied. Trying to maintain 80-10-10 and not overeat on fat was really hard for me. I need a meal plan that is sustainable. With the Protective Diet I am able to stay within my ranges easily because all the recipes are on the plan. I am excited that I, like others before me, will shed the weight and learn a healthier way of eating that is sustainable.
