it's going to be hot

Saturday, February 06, 2016

Definitely have to plan for this week, due to the forecast of a record-breaking heatwave[1]. The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting four days of 40degC (~104degF) and above, with overnight minimums of 24degC (~75degF) and above[2]. But to be honest there is not much difference between 39 and 40degC, which is what is forecast for the days either side of the heatwave.

It would be easy to do nothing. But laundry still needs to be done, shopping, and the preparation of meals that you feel like eating when it is hot. There is only so much you can do in the 'cool' of the day after a night of tossing and turning. So need to plan for the usual tasks, and the additional activities surrounding allowing for the heat.

There will be additional watering of plants to be done in the morning, and some watering of the soil to 'rescue' some plants in the late afternoon. I will not be hanging out laundry after mid-morning, as everything just gets crisped on the line. So will dry indoors, out of the bleaching sun.

I will stick to stretching and strength exercises on days that I am not cycling to and from work. Cycling to work won't be too much of an issue as I leave for work quite early, but will probably be a bit slower due to lack of sleep. Coming back in the afternoon will be another story, but as long as I cover up from the sun's UV and keep in mind that cool shower when I get home I'm sure I'll manage.

Definitely won't be going outside unless I have to, so planning to do some organising and decluttering of a room that we want to renovate.

Wow yes you take care in the heatwave! Looks like you have a good plan in place though. We've had hot weather here in Brisbane, but not nearly as bad as what you are expecting over there! Take care and don't forget to drink your water! Good luck with that room you will be tackling. emoticon emoticon
