Will this finally work???????

Saturday, February 06, 2016

OK, what has been going on....I've managed to not gain...but that's it. I've had supraz (sp?) shots in my knees for the past 10 weeks - 5 weeks each knee. really helped the left- not so much in the right. Still walking on two canes and barely able to move. Hubby and I have decided to go on a radically restricted diet. I know it is not recommended but my doctor has given me the go ahead because basically neither he nor I believe I will make it to the end of the year in the shape I am in now.

I'm pretty much going to try to stay under 700 cals till I lose at least 40 pounds. I believe I will be able to breathe much better if I can get some of the fat off my throat. I also believe I would be able to restart my chair exercises at that point.

We are still working on our meal plan, but I foresee a lot of cabbage soup in my future. Today did not start out well since we ate our last can of biscuits to keep from throwing them away - probably should have just thrown them out.

Anyway - I'm still here and still trying, just not doing very well. Just thought I'd give a little update

Hugs to all

emoticon Hi Kathy, Sounds good that your Dr. is helping you to go on a very low calorie diet for a limited time. Be sure you get protein in there to spare your muscle mass. Did he give you a diet plan?
I wish you the best with this current 40 pounds!

Kathy, it's so good to hear from you! I'm so stoked that you're back! I've been gone for a month, because I had a silent stroke. If you would like to get and update, please read by current blog. I gained weight like crazy the last 2 weeks I was in the hospital, as the meals were horrid ,and not healthy at all, so to get something in me, I ate crackers, peanut butter, ice cream, and when I found out the vending machine would take five dollar bills, I ate from there, also. I went from 164 to 185 and I'm not a happy camper, but my, mom says, I look GREAT! I have a couple of recipes for some cabbage soup, that I love and it's a different variation that I've never had before, it you would like them. I lost weight big time with them, when I used them, and almost null on the calories.

I'm so delighted to see you posting again! Love you, girl!

    Blessings!

So Glad Kathy!! And spring is a wonderful time to refocus, and start anew on healthy changes. There is just an "energy" in the air once that winter weather starts to leave... I know you've recently had major Winter weather hit...we've been more fortunate...so I'm getting that energy boost. Look for it...Enjoy it!! In the meantime, One Day At A TIme, One Decision At A Time. Be patient with yourself, your knees and Life...

That you kept the weight loss and didn't gain is wonderful! I hope that you are successful loosing more. Keep moving through the day. Even tiny bits help keep you limber. I could not stick to a 700 calorie a day diet. I had NO energy and was VERY cranky. I did lots of research and found that the DASH diet was the most successful long term. You can choose what works for you. Keep up the good work! Good to see you back!

emoticon to you and hubby, good luck.
Seeing you plan a restricted diet, have you looked at " the whole 30"
it is restricting dairy, legumes and grains for 30 days then you can add in 1 foodgroup at a time, I did this and was never hungry and consumed about 900-1000 cal/day.
You eat "clean" foods,no addatives no added sugar
Either way Good Luck to you both emoticon

Really glad you are back and you haven't gained! Hope your knees improve with some weight loss. I have heard that even 10 lbs will help them. I like the advice of some of your Spark friends that you see a nutritionist if you can....700 calls seems quite low. An aunt of mine was on a diet like that but she was put into hospital so they could keep an eye on her.
    Good luck.

So glad you are still with us. Support will be here to keep you going. 700 calories is very strict but as long as the Dr. follows you with blood studies, you will be okay. Keep in touch and let us know your progress. It's so hard when your knees are so painful. Do try some chair exercises that are posted on this site. There are some really good ones. I tend to use them as well.

Good to hear from you. Sorry not so good news yet but you are doing your best and that is all you can ask of yourself. 700 calories will not be easy to maintain. Buy a lot of veggies since they are almost calorie free. You might look into atkins or some other low carb diet and you may be able to have more calories without gain. Just a suggestion if you have not already tried this or looked into it. Keep pushing.

Don't give up. Glad you are still with SP, I had lost track of you. Better to have thrown the biscuits away. Better in the trash than on your knees. I have the same problem with my knees. Be careful what doctors OKAY because they do not take courses in nutrition. One doctor okayed my daughter to go on a 500 cal a day diet, and she ended up in the ER. Please be careful and one word of advice from someone who has been there, watch your sodium. That is what puts the lbs on. I kept my sodium at 1200mg a day and lost 7 lbs in one week. Now I am 74 and the sodium has dropped down to 1200mg a day. Heck, I thought 1200mg was hard. Bev

Not gaining is a victory. Give yourself credit for that.

You WILL see results if you restrict your calories and bump up your activity just a bit so the answer to your question is YES! This will work!

I am glad you didn't gain...you go from where you are! Look at all the support you have and people who understand. You're not alone! I understand why others are saying the calories are to low...but I think your Dr is trying to get you to drop 40 pounds fast to actually quickly give your body a break...then you can go to a more steady weight loss. You will know if you hit an energy crisis as you will not lose...it probably will not happen! The cabbage or veggie soup is low cal and nutritious and will allow you to feel full...I have several recipes if you need any, just let me know!
This is your life...you are worth this...you and your DH team up and help each other!
Check in each day...let us know how you are doing and if we can help!
    Best wishes!
P.S. Make sure you have a plan of what foods are going to be good in this 700 calories, such as egg whites, veggies and fruits (berries are best)!

sending many hugs - I sincerely hope you find something that works and helps you move and be in less pain.

I've often wondered if a very low cal diet would work -- like what the gastric bypass patients eat for 6 weeks after they have surgery. I don't think it could be a permanent lifestyle but it has to help kickstart things

Since you have your doctor's approval, lowering the calories will probably help a lot. Just don't ever give up, you have too much at stake.

I believe in you and know you're going to make it!

Take it one moment at a time. You can do it. Don't give up. The diet the Dr. really turned things around for me but it was a big change. It took awhile but the change did happen and now I am a normal weight. I never thought I would see that. emoticon
