All Those Ads--A Rant

Thursday, February 18, 2016

A little spouting today. I know SparkPeople has to have the ads so they can provide this wonderful site to us free of charge, but I don't want them to interfere with my logging in my food. Maybe it's just this computer. Maybe it's just me. The ads and I are not getting along this morning!

First I went in as my husband, MASON_ED. He's at 90 pounds and needs to GAIN WEIGHT. I know that may be a foreign subject for some of us; however around my house it's a BIG subject. No matter what we do he doesn't seem to gain, and his blood sugars go sky high. Thank goodness, we have an appointment with the Diabetes Dietition on Tuesday.

Anyway, I tried to put in his food for today, and needed to enter a new shake I got "Adkins Cafe Caramel Shake". (Very low carbs) It wasn't in the database already. SparkPeople kept giving me a blank screen or an ad, but every time I tried to enter the info, it crashed and took me back to the Nutrition Page.

Now I've gone to my own PATTI_PAL1 account, and wanted to move the tangerine in front of me to my snack instead of the breakfast. I keep getting an ad for a kitchen something. I can barely see the page to change "Breakfast" to "Snack", and no matter what I do, it crashes without giving me the change.

Oh SparkPeople, please help!

I use Google Chrome with adblocker and Ghostery installed (it keeps tracking cookies away). I pay for SparkCoach so I don't feel bad about not allowing the ads.

Usually it;s a certain ad that messing things up and I've found that the spark tech people are very good in taking care of it.

Can you tell which ad it is when this happens?
I've sent problems to adreport@sparkpeople.com and offending problem ads disappeared.
(one instance was the Mayo Clinic ad, another time something about exercising with your dog). Both froze my computer.

There's also the site/tech help message board where Coach Jen may have a suggestion. I track daily and it never takes more than a few minutes unless I'm entering a brand new food myself. Once it's in my favorites (or recent), it's quick to track

I understand about needing to gain weight. I got into tracking when my mother wasn't eating enough (depression after Dad died) and was losing weight. We began doing it together. She had to eat more and I had to eat less.

I hope you get the help you need with both the computer and the medical problems.

Can you try the mobile app? Less ads and easy to use? I find it very handy. Also, isn't it "Atkins"? That might bring it up? Good luck - tracking food is hard enough without computer issues!
