Sparkly!

Saturday, February 27, 2016

So so grateful for all the great birding vacation suggestions: thank you, thank you, thank you! I will enjoy the further research and planning!

Maybe once a winter -- and not even necessarily every winter -- we get one of those ice storms which coats every twig on every tree, followed by sunshine which illumintates all the sparkles! It can be short-lived: if the sunshine makes temperature rise too rapidly, all the ice falls with a tinkling sound.

Yesterday was one of those days, which lasted all day. Glorious! And reminded me: it's not the beaches and bougainvillea of Antigua, but even in late February my part of the world has its beauty.

And no: the pictures cannot remotely do it justice!

We had a bit of that beauty recently, too...and you are right...a photo just cannot capture it.

oh i remember those well! once, back in the 70s we were flying into JFK airport in ny at christmas, and we thought what lovely christmas decorations they put up - and it turned out to be the remains of the ice storm of all ice storms - never forget how gorgeous it was!

Love a good ice storm followed by blue sky.
    And no driving!

Ok. I admit I know the beauty of such days. My first thought though is to grab the cleats. And to remind myself to get the stand by generator installed before next winter. The old gasoline driven one just won't do it for us anymore.

As a lover of nature I understand adaptation. That is mine. Evolution.

emoticon and you always have lovely pictures....one thing about CA that is SO worth it! I LOVE the outdoors all the time...when we go north hunting in the fall, I just go to SEE it!

Mother Nature can put on a emoticon anywhere!

Would rather not have the icy streets and sidewalks though. Poor Quebec once again got one of those traffic stopping ice storms!

I have two weeks of mostly free time now and I would love to go stay at Mom's, but she says the paths aren't very good now (more ice) and their slow internet would make it difficult to enjoy the next summit coming up and as they are having five speakers a day its going to be intensive and having a slow or bogging down internet would make it difficult. As well as the lack of privacy (I really hate exercising with someone watching). May just go for one week as a compromise..

The sky in my part of the Northeast has been fabulous lately. At least on the days when it is sunny. The sun is rising later in the morning and I drive due east to Spectrum, so I am seeing amazing sunrises lately. Winter light is really special.

Agree, re: pictures...they just can't capture it can they? It's why I haven't bothered so much with them lately.

But yes, the beauty is always there, even on those seemingly drab & dreary days: we just have to open our eyes to "see" it...

There is nature's beauty everywhere and in every season for sure!! I remember the first time I saw an ice storm and was enthralled with how beautiful. so many were worried about power outages, etc. and I just couldn't take my eyes off of the beauty! I was still a preteen and thought I could play on the ice like in the snow and lesson learned! Thanks for sharing. I miss actually seeing such beauty in the world now I am blind, but love to live vicariously thru my Spark friends' eyes!

Yes! In the dead of winter, the beauty of my area is sometimes lost on me, but there is definitely beauty in the snows sparkle from the sun shining on it, the crunch of the snow as you walk on it. Each season has it's beauty to offer. Have to admit, I'm ready for the beauty spring has to offer!
