International Women's Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.
This is a short story about Indian women taking control of the air for a day today. It comes from a land of contradictions. I know some very powerful women who hail from India. There are some women there who are treated worse than the lowly feral cat.
What will you do to bring awareness? What can you do? How?
Read the articles, be yourself and rock your womanhood!
Back to my blog. I was unaware this was an auspicious day. My mental draft happily coincides with the movement.
You've all been giving me well-appreciated accolades for doing what I believe I should do.
I have always told stories, "like they are". One of my favorite writers was Erma Bombeck. She wrote from the hip, the soul and the bathroom floor when she was cleaning. Life is life and relating the minutia can sometimes be therapeutic, funny or sad but it is still life.
I happen to be related to those others and there's a kinship factor that pushes me a bit further since I "created" some of the players! The bottom line is I have a lot of giving inside. I have a lot of strength. I give as much as I can until I can't, then I take a rest.
It's akin to being at the gym, sweating out those last 3 "whatevers" and your trainer comes along and says "give me 5 more."
Do you say no, thank you? I don't need to have great abs, good posture or a healthy heart?
What's in it for me?
No, most of us here will give the 5 more to prove to ourselves we can, prove to the trainer we can or because we know it will make things better in the end.
So, thanks for thinking I'm awesome, I'm doing what I do best!
BTW DD1 is still in the hospital for the duration of the pregnancy and I think she is scheduled for delivery Friday.
SIL is being Mr. Mom, going to work, caring for the boys. He's awesome too!
