A better day

Monday, May 30, 2016

Yesterday started out pretty good. I was finally motivated to clean up and organize my office. It's the room I keep all my knitting supplies, yarn, patterns, and inventory. It also contains my desk, computer, and some papers I'm using as I work on Ancestry.com. There is a lot of stuff in here and it has been feeling quite cramped. As is typical, at least for me, I started in one area which made a mess somewhere else. I was starting to put things back when we got the call that Tom's mom had fallen, likely broken her leg, and was on the way to the hospital. That pretty much ended the organizing. She is currently under home hospice care which adds to the complications.

We thought we might be needed again today so we first went to buy the mulch we need to redo the area under the gazebo

If you can see, there are baby trees and other grasses growing ON TOP of the garden fabric we put down so many years ago. This week (I hope) we'll clean that up and then set up the gazebo for use.

I wanted to plant but the sun was too hot where the garden is so I decided to clean up the weeds around the big tree

I got at least 2/3's around - did the front because that's what I can see as I look out my window. The plan is to see if I can plant some hostas out there. Last year I put in a lot of marigolds and they looked nice but I wanted to try something else this year. That's tomorrow's job - or the next day it doesn't rain.

I have some perennials that need to be transplanted into the fairy garden

but we are expecting thunderstorms with the possibility of hail tonight so I thought I'd wait until tomorrow.

And I want to pull a few of the light green hostas out of the Kitty Memorial Garden (in honor of Linus, Shadow and Cleo)

and put them on the other side of the yard where I now have tiger lilies; too many tiger lilies!

When I work in the gardens I have a blanket I put down because often the grass is damp - so Daisy had to have her blanket too

but she tired out pretty quickly after Tom chased her around the yard on the lawn mower

and Sheba decided it was a nice day to get some fresh air; after all, she's special and she gets to do whatever she wants to do

So it's been a good day and I'm tired out. I still have to get outside to pick up everything I didn't pick up when I finished - that thunderstorm is coming, or so they say!

Wow, what a gorgeous garden! So much land! And so lush! Oh Kathy, gardening is almost a full time job where you are. And you have Daisy Doodle to keep you company while working. I loved it when I would be in the garden and glance over to Sundae watching him watching me. I magical connection, always. So it sounds like you and Daisy will be alone for a few days? That sounds like a vacation to me! ;o)
