El Camino de Compostela part 2.

Thursday, July 07, 2016

Now we leave Ponferrada and walk to Villafranca del Bierzo

A doorway to an old Hostel for pilgrims

There are many storks in Spain, seems almost every tall post has a nest.

A typical street in a small town

countryside walking solitude.

our destination, this inn is situated in a 400 + year old building, very charming.

this was an easier trek, but hard on our sore muscles.
The next etappe will be shorter but harder we are going up the mountain, from 500m to 1330 m altitude and about some 25-28 kilometers, to O'Cebreiro a small village on a mountain top.
Very scenic route.

Now we are in Galicia,

at our destination and most housing was done like this ,in stone.
our hotel was very cold, and probably the least liked place to stay at.

But he view in the morning ,,,, WOW. looks like floating islands.

Leaving for Triacastela, downhill this time and about 20 some kilometers.
Here we are, by a statue of a pilgrim.

on the road again..

sharing the road

a very old chestnut tree.

stopped in Filloval for lunch, i had pulpo, loved it

our destination is around the corner so I say goodnight.
more tomorrow.
some of you asked ,,,yes we carry backpacks, for snacks ,rain coats, hats suntan lotions water and i pads, cameras clopped to waist. WE booked this with a travel outfit from Ireland called Camino Ways, they carted our suitcases to the hotels as well.we only carried what we needed for the day.
