Dealing with those who want to sabotage your success....

Tuesday, July 26, 2016

Since re-joining WW a couple of weeks ago I have noticed at our meetings how often I hear about situations of family and/or co-workers offering food that they know is not the right choice for someone on the 'program' trying to lose. However, the real test is finding that inner strength to say 'no thank you'.

I have this mantra typed out and taped to my monitor at work and another one on my fridge at home:
No matter the occasion or location - no one can force me to eat anything. I am in control! That was my A-HA - I'm not a toddler being spoon fed - I control the fork/spoon that comes near my mouth. Look them in the eye and just politely say NO THANKS and let it go. You don't owe anyone an explanation - you answer to YOU! If you try and explain to them - they won't hear you and all you are doing is providing fuel to their fire. If you say nothing more - what can they do? If you give in and take the food - then that is on YOU - not them tempting you. You can do this and along the way it gets easier because your inner strength will get stronger. I'm feeling really positive right now and I will not allow anyone to take that away from me.

We can do this!!!

Great!! You're right; there is only one person who is responsible for what goes in your mouth. I am frequently (ahem, daily) telling my family "NO THANKS" but sadly I have to tell them two, three, and sometimes four times. I used to get the "We can't let it go to waste" line but I've cottoned on and now just say, "Oh well," because I know that the old saying "A moment on the lips, a lifetime on the hips" is just as wasteful and, unfortunately, too true.

Keep up the good work, Gwen!!
