I have spent so many years taking care of others, that I never gave much thought to my own health and wellbeing...
I joined Sparkpeople.com almost a year ago knowing I needed to do something but old habits are hard to break, and new ones are even harder to form...
I have never been onte to be easly motivated.. exersize was somithing I was just too unintersted to bother with.. and my eating habits were very poor.......
This last April for some reason I began to start giving some serious thought to my health and weigh I weighed more than twice what I did when I was 18 that would have been fine if I had kept growing up and not just out.. but some how tall was not what I was intended to be.. Even though I am twice the woman I once was I decided it was time to stop the growth and get back down to a little closer to what half of what this woman is today...
I have began to change my eating habits and I am eating healthy most of the time and walking a 20 min. mile twice a day and working out 3X a week/ As of today I have lost 17 pounds and am gaining strength and stamana . Some days I have to force my self to get moving but once I do I am ok... As far as my food choices I am doing much better but I still have days that I over eat or do not make wise choice, but I am doing much better.. I have only had 2 weeks in the last 6 that I have not had a weight loss and not one gain .. So I have decided to write a blog and make my accoungable to my self and any one who reads this.. I hope to write in here at least once a week till I reach my goal..

Great blog Elaine. Time for an update. How are you doing?
I'm glad you decided to do something for yourself. Taking care of others is great, but we need that care too. It took me a long time to realize that.

You're doing well. I think you need this.

You are sooooooooooooo right. We all need to take the time to care about ourselves but as women, we just don't seem to take the time. Now that we are retired, DH and I have started eating healthy and getting exercise in every day and it is helping. Both with the weight (my problem, not his) and with feeling good!! When I was working, it was always fix something quick to get out of the kitchen and rest before the next day started!! Now I take time to plan and we are eating a lot more chicken and some pork and hardly any beef any more. We have eliminated 'pizza night' and 'fast foods' from our diets and it has really made a difference.
You keep up the good work girl and remember, you have to come first!!

I can completely relate to you! Over the past week my Doctor, my husband and many of my friends have been driling into my head about taking care of me. We cannot help others if we do not care for ourselves first.

I too am about twice the size I was when I was 18. I hate it but I am beginning to understand it is the weight that I hate not me.

This week I have climbed back on the wagon - perhaps I should say I am running beside it - LOL. I have been a diabetic for 4 years and have probably cared for it properly for 1 year out of the four.
