Sad News

Wednesday, September 14, 2016

I am heartsick this morning. My dear sweet daughter-in-law, Crystal, lost her mom this morning at 6 a.m. Donna was such a huge part of Crystal's life and a wonderful woman.

She had been suffering from severe back pain for a couple of years now. She's seen doctor after doctor but no one could figure out how to help her. She even had a fairly non-invasive surgery earlier this summer.

On Sunday afternoon she had a heart attack. Her husband was there and did CPR until the ambulance arrived. They took her to Abbot Northwester, one of the best hospitals in the city (they live in a small town about 60 miles west of Minneapolis). She was put in an induced coma in the ICU. Monday they discovered a blood clot in her leg and while they were in surgery they also found a blocked artery in her pelvis (which may have been where the pain came from???). She had surgery late Monday and was recovering yesterday while they were slowly taking her out of the coma. Unfortunately, she suffered another cardiac arrest this morning and they were unable to revive her because her heart was too damaged.

There is nothing that Tom and I can do right now. We offered to come up and help with the boys but William (his son) just wants to be alone with them. This is going to be so devastating to Crystal - she was very close to her mom who, by the way, was only 58. Such a tragedy - I have no words.

Thank you Spark friends for letting me pour our my grief.

Geeze oh Pete...I'm SO sorry to hear about this terrible tragedy! We have NOT been having a good time of it as far as the traveling is concerned have we my friend? And traveling to see people we'd prefer NOT to see makes it all the more stressful.

You are being a wonderful selfless person for your DIL and I can tell you how very much that must mean to her! My MIL has NEVER nor will she EVER put herself out to help someone when they need her understanding and moral support. You on the other hand are ALWAYS there for your family and your extended family and that is just so heartwarming to me!

I know about the vehicle repair bills before a big trip also...we paid boo~que money out on a timing belt for the Sequoia that took a huge chunk of our money away that we thought we'd have to put toward the trip.

I call it the vacation from hell...but guess what...BIG IMPORTANT lessons were learned about drawing a line in the sand and I guess whatever the cost was for that it was SO worth it.

When Tom's family are mean to you just give a big ole' evil smile and then wish the bastids a good day...you are SO lucky to be done with stinkpots like them and I think the same about MIL and SIL.

I'm sending you tons of healthy happy vibes and believe me...you are earning your angel wings for supporting your DIL....yes you ARE! emoticon

To lose a mom, it is so devastating. I am so sorry for your daughter-in-law Kathy. Especially when it just seems like a too unnecessary death for such a young woman. Hearing things like this only reinforces my thoughts that living life to the fullest everyday is essential. Too many people, too many sparkers just feel the need to sit in their "pity pot" and not get anything accomplished by doing so. And then years go by and they look at what they accomplished only to see reality showing they accomplished very little. And that to me is very sad. Hold on tight for the next choppy few days, I know you are strong and you will get through this. Just remember, take good care of Kathy, okay?
