Going Gluten Free

I decided finally to try to go gluten free. Today is day five and lots of fluid is coming off. My doctor and I have discussed my going gluten free for three years. I have been reading blogs by other Sparkers who are trying to reduce inflammation and who are gluten free. Since I have been having lots of issues with swelling and inflammation, it seems like a logical next step.

I made the mistake of also trying to cut out sugar at the same time. It is just too much too fast. My body is really out of whack and I've had all kinds of cravings. I decided to ease up on the sugar ban for a short period. Hopefully, my body will balance out soon.

I have already noticed a small reduction in pain. I have read blogs here at Spark People where people have ended up with huge amounts of pain reduction by going gluten free. Since I am hypothyroid, it is also recommended that I go gluten free. Many thyroid issues are autoimmune related and a gluten free diet helps reduce irritation in the digestive tract. It will be interesting to see what happens. My daughter has been gluten free for years and her health is much better. (She has a gluten sensitivity along with several allergies.)

So, for those of you who have been wondering what I've been doing........
I am making good progress with physical therapy.
I am helping our oldest daughter with her wedding plans.
I am still reading "You On A Diet" by Dr. Oz and Dr. Roizen .
I am attempting to be more physically active with walking and home exercise.
I am tracking more of my food and watching my sodium intake.
I am working on my quantity and quality of sleep.
I am trying to eat a gluten free diet.

    I've been gluten free for 7 years now. What I suggest is to adjust your expectations down. If you try GF versions of foods you like, they simply won't be the same. Constant disappointment isn't worth it. Don't expect it to be the same. It helps!

    The longer I have been without gluten and grains, the better my body feels. Where I most noticeably experience the improvement is at the fracture site. There's been a marked reduction in swelling, discomfort and pain.

    I just went gluten and sugar free. The detoxing was hard, but worth it. It's been a month, I lost 15 lbs and have a lot less pain all over my body. Good luck, you can do it!
