A Successful Weekend

Wednesday, September 21, 2016

This past weekend, I flew from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Seattle, Washington for my friend's son's wedding. I was flying in on Friday and leaving Sunday, so not much time to spend in the Emerald City.

Since I was only going to be there a short time and wanted to make the most of my time, I opted to pack everything for the weekend in a backpack instead of a suitcase (yes, even my dress and heels for the wedding) so I could head straight to Seattle for a little sightseeing without having to drag along a suitcase or go the extra 1/2 hour away to the hotel.

I made sure to plan ahead for opportunities for success. I packed almonds and apples for the plane ride, my vitamins, green tea bags, and Truvia packets. After arriving at the airport and checking through TSA, I located my gate so I would know where I needed to be and what time the plane was boarding and then I got my workout on! I carried my 20 lb. backpack and 5 lb. purse and walked through the entire airport until we had to board.

Once arriving in Seattle, I hit the ground running! My flight got in an hour early around 9:30 a.m. which worked out to my advantage with my limited time schedule. I caught an Uber ride to the Space Needle, saw the Chihuly Garden and Glasshouse, the first Starbucks location, ate lunch at Pike's Market, and got to watch them toss fish at the famous Pike Place Fish Market . . . all before getting to the hotel and getting ready for the rehearsal dinner at 6:00! Whew!

The rehearsal dinner was held at a Tavern. Needless to say, healthy options were limited. I ended up having salad and ordering a side of salmon from the waiter. A successful meal! Saturday morning, I woke up early and did weight training in the hotel's gym. Of course the equipment was limited but it was a make it work moment! Tim Gunn would have been proud of me! I used the dumbbells, bench, and pulley system to do chest, triceps, and legs.

At the wedding, with no salad or plain vegetables in sight, I had a double portion of protein. Adjust, adapt, overcome. No problem when your mind has changed about the way you eat. If I had wanted a piece of wedding cake, I would have had it but in fact, I didn't even want any. It wasn't deprivation, just not necessary.

On my return trip on Sunday morning, after checking through TSA and again locating my gate and departure time, I got my workout on again! I walked through the entire airport with my backpack and purse until I had to board.

I was so proud of having stayed on my eating plan and creating opportunities for me to get my workouts in. I can really see a change in the way I think about exercise and about nutrition. I feel such a sense of accomplishment.

Successful Weekend . . . check!

Me getting my workout on in the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport!
