Thanksgiving 2016

Friday, November 25, 2016

I spent about 3 weeks getting ready for Thanksgiving this year - it's the first time I hosted for awhile. It's been a busy but rewarding couple of days.

Brandon, Shelly & Annie arrived on Wednesday evening. Annie and Daisy were so happy to see each other. They played and played, took out all Daisy's toys, and then went to their respective sides of the living room to rest - the first photo is Annie, the second is Daisy.

Daisy may have to join SparkDoggie - she is shorter than Annie, but is a lot stockier!

Thanksgiving day went very well. I had done so much of the prep work on Wednesday that everything came together perfectly. I meant to get a photo of the table BEFORE they dished up but there was a commercial running during the game so here's what it looked like AFTER.

And this is how we ate - not my choice but apparently life for these 4 is dependent on whether or not the Vikings win (unfortunately, they did not)

I almost forgot - I made 2 pies. A French Apple and an Eggnog Pumpkin. They both turned out amazing, and I don't typically make pies - and never tried pumpkin. I got the recipe from a spark friend GLAMNGLOWDIVA and my husband said it was the best pumpkin pie he's ever had.

After the game the kids all went through their boxes of school things that I had saved for them. It was an interesting activity and they shared a lot of laughter looking at things, but I was a bit disappointed that both my boys promptly disposed of almost everything. I guess they both adhere to the minimalist theory.

Here is Colin & Lauriellen

Lauriellen & her boyfriend Bryan

Lauriellen & Me (when she was a little girl I would have to FIGHT with Lauriellen to have her photo taken, and she almost always had a scowl on her face - now she lives getting her photo taken, go figure)

Brandon & Shelly playing cards - I wouldn't let them watch any more football after the Vikings game and I guess they were bored of Hallmark

The only photo I have of my oldest daughter Jessica was watching the game - she refuses to be in any photos. She is currently working on her own weight loss program!

And after everyone had gone home (except Shelly & Brandon who left this morning), Daisy took a much-needed nap.

I enjoyed every minute of Thanksgiving day - but I have to be honest and say that I am just as thankful for today. I have cleaned off my turkey, made stock from the bones, and we are eating left overs for dinner. It's been a wonderfully quiet day. Tom and I took Daisy for her walk which she and I both needed! I think it's only about 32 degrees but no wind which made it quite pleasant for walk.

I hope all of you had a good day yesterday.

Not only is Lauriellen quite beautiful, she looks like her momma! Thank you for sharing your holiday photos, it seems so odd to me that eating a large holiday meal during the midday is a norm for all of you. You wouldn't see that done in my family. Never ever. We always celebrate the holiday meals at dinner time...I would be so darn sleepy if I ate turkey et al during the daytime, it would ruin the rest of the day and then at night time I would be hungry again. Nope, I just couldn't do it. Though when I was first married, we were invited to a client of my ex's and they had a huge Italian family and had their meal at 3:00 o'clock in the afternoon! Now who eats a big meal at that time? I had such a difficult time swallowing all the food I put on my plate but somehow I did manage and when 8 rolled around, I was hungry all over again. It was so odd sitting down mid afternoon to a big meal. I don't think I could ever get use to it. I am just a night eater!

That's all she wrote folks! ;o)

Oh...how I loved to be included in your Thanksgiving day through your pictures! Your family is just so adorable. Sparkdoggie made me laugh right out loud...DH looked over from the Iowa/Nebraska game we are watching tonight. He knows how much fun I have with my spark people and he says I entertain easy...maybe I do...but I love my sparkys...I do..I do!

I loved the pic of you and Lauriellen...you both look SO happy and content..it's the perfect mother/daughter pic!

Daisy Doodle had a heck of a big day didn't she? I'm so happy she got to be with her sister. I know doggies love their family the same way we do.

You did a fantastic job with all of that meal prep. The spread looked amazing! AND...DON'T we LOVE those left overs? The best! emoticon
