My new smart phone is smarter than me!

Saturday, December 03, 2016

So today has been quite the experience for me. We finally did it. My DH and I have been carrying around flip phones forever. His view - all we need phones for is to talk. I have to agree after getting myself a Samsung tablet a few months ago. Sure I can download a lot of apps but once I've downloaded them, I have no idea what to do with them.

BUT all good things come to an end eventually, don't they! Tom's phone has been turning off all by itself several times during the day and mine has a chip out of the back so the back doesn't want to stay on very well. We looked at replacement flip phones - Verizon wanted pretty big bucks for them. So we looked at Smart Phones and wow, they were totally more than we could spend. Even with 6 children, we maybe get 3-5 phone calls a week! And while I can see the value in having a phone that can look up stuff while we are traveling, I can't imagine doing it at home!

So we went to Consumer Cellular - after all, they do advertise to our generation of people. And don't all those people look like they are having such fun! They are all healthy, fit, and very active people - that's what I want! But they also had reasonably priced smart phones and plans that were more in our price range.

Today we went to Target and talked to the cutest, smartest, and nicest young man named John. He spent at least an hour with us (there was a glitch that he had to resolve). He was so thoughtful, never talked down to us, and got us all set up. He even showed us a few things on our new phones. I am totally writing a letter to his boss - he should be rewarded for a job well done. He was only 19 and had been working as a tech at Target for only 3 months. I thought he had to be 21 with some kind of technology degree or background.

My phone is now charging and I'm pretty much afraid to use it. I needed to receive a text so I could sign in to the Consumer Cellular site - that was a process. But who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks; or an old(er) lady new technology.

I will play with it this evening to see what I can do! Can't wait to see how the kids react - I'm sure they will be pleased.

Once my Dad retired he changed to the Consumer Cellular phone to. He doesn't get many calls and didn't need all that extra stuff like I have.

Once you find your way with a smart phone, it's hard to go back to a not-so-smart phone...

I feel that all a phone is good for is talking, and the occasional text but these days i find a lot intimidating and do not want to go near them. one day i may upgrade from my basic tracfone to one that does more and i can connect with the internet while i am out

My I-Phone and I are BEST buds! I use it all the time and the feature I most love is the picture taking ability. I always tell my customers to take pictures of things they think they might like. I tell them to take the pic home, hold it up in their space and see how it looks. Conversely, I ask them to take a picture of their room and if they have something they are unsure about I'll be happy to give my opinion. It's just the BEST thing since sliced bread! I also LOVE to text and I use the Sparkpeople app wherever and whenever...I don't like the limited room for comments but you can always do as Fredie does with her part 1, part 2, etc. ONLY Fredie would make sure you get her comments in proper sequence! emoticon That girl ALWAYS makes me laugh!

How sweet of you to write a nice letter to the young man that helped you. I find that some of our younger generation are so non-judgemental that you can't help but love them. I truly DO think it will be a better world when they take charge!

So many of Josh's friends are so kind and thoughtful to us. We stay in touch with them through Facebook.

So study that new phone and welcome to the age of technology. I just love it when my elderly little customers whip out their smart phones and check their e-mail! emoticon

Way to go! This ol' dog has been learning all sorts of new tricks on my iPhone . . . and I know you can do it too.

I absolutely LOVE mine! I don't play games but there are so many useful apps for stuff I've been doing the hard way for a long time.

Be sure to download the SparkPeople apps too. Eager to hear how you like it after you get used to it.

It's a whole new world!!! The world of smart phones is a great invention and I love it too much. However there is a flip side to this and that is striving NOT to be glued to it (which is my problem). I've had one for 5 yrs and I'm so dependent on it!
