My new smart phone is smarter than me!

So today has been quite the experience for me. We finally did it. My DH and I have been carrying around flip phones forever. His view - all we need phones for is to talk. I have to agree after getting myself a Samsung tablet a few months ago. Sure I can download a lot of apps but once I've downloaded them, I have no idea what to do with them.
BUT all good things come to an end eventually, don't they! Tom's phone has been turning off all by itself several times during the day and mine has a chip out of the back so the back doesn't want to stay on very well. We looked at replacement flip phones - Verizon wanted pretty big bucks for them. So we looked at Smart Phones and wow, they were totally more than we could spend. Even with 6 children, we maybe get 3-5 phone calls a week! And while I can see the value in having a phone that can look up stuff while we are traveling, I can't imagine doing it at home!
So we went to Consumer Cellular - after all, they do advertise to our generation of people. And don't all those people look like they are having such fun! They are all healthy, fit, and very active people - that's what I want! But they also had reasonably priced smart phones and plans that were more in our price range.
Today we went to Target and talked to the cutest, smartest, and nicest young man named John. He spent at least an hour with us (there was a glitch that he had to resolve). He was so thoughtful, never talked down to us, and got us all set up. He even showed us a few things on our new phones. I am totally writing a letter to his boss - he should be rewarded for a job well done. He was only 19 and had been working as a tech at Target for only 3 months. I thought he had to be 21 with some kind of technology degree or background.
My phone is now charging and I'm pretty much afraid to use it. I needed to receive a text so I could sign in to the Consumer Cellular site - that was a process. But who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks; or an old(er) lady new technology.
I will play with it this evening to see what I can do! Can't wait to see how the kids react - I'm sure they will be pleased.
