Another day in the life......

Wednesday, December 14, 2016

We MIGHT have a new hot water heater - I'm not sure. The guys came at 9:30 this morning. They were very nice - one was verrrry tall and the other was verrrry young. Of course, it will cost about $100 more than the estimate because of course, the city, county, state, country put some new think in place so we aren't up to code.

The got to work, and worked and worked - Tom working down there right along with them. Three hours later it looked like we had a hot water heater - AND hot water! BUT, apparently we also have a clogged floor drain in the basement which will have to be fixed sooner rather than later. Add another $300 or so to this darn project. Oh well, what are you going to do!

So we settle down to have lunch but Tom is nervous that everything is right. Four years ago when we had that hot water heater installed the guy didn't seal off the gas valve securely enough. Our trusty cat Sheba, who's food & water are in the next room over, was acting very suspicious. She'd run downstairs like she does when she's running out of food. So Tom went down to check - not food, but gas leaking. In a room we rarely go into, next to the furnace. NOT GOOD. They came out right away to fix that - but now he's spooked about everything.

Which apparently is a very good thing because of course, the darn thing started leaking right away. On the pipe that brings in the cold water, where they soldered it together. So the guys are back. The young one running up and down the stairs - he's probably clocked in 30 flights of stairs just at our house today - I'm jealous! And of course, it's not just the soldering but some part that apparently was faulty. So they have to drain the hot water heater - using buckets because the drain doesn't work. Then I guess / hope / pray that they can install a new part and make the darn thing work again.

So here's what I've been thinking. Since we've already spent more money in the past month than we have in the 6 months before - we may as well finish the year out and make sure everything is working properly. I am not going to stress out about this - we haven't had to make any major repairs for some time, other than the windows. I am going to enjoy my holidays and make a plan to get everything paid for in January. Life happens and just because it's happening a lot in my world these past several months - well, I'm just not going to get caught up in all the crazy.

I'm trying to clean my house so I can bring up a few Christmas decorations. It's slow going because I have to be so careful with my knee. But it's going. One room down, only 5 more to go! Gotta celebrate the wins or life wouldn't be any fun!

I don't envy your situation, but it'll be GREAT when everything is ship-shape in a month or so. You're approaching it very well.

Hope by now your water heater situation is corrected and you're enjoying hot water.
Yeah, that's how it goes. We took the car in for new tires; on the way to meet me there my husband's truck lost brakes, so......
Some bills coming due for the new house--at least we'll be paid up for when we sell this house and can use the profit to continue to finish the new house. Always something.

I absolutely love your way of thinking Kathy darlin! You got it down for sure. It ain't worth worrying over what ifs or whys or OMG's! You just do what is needed, you are a homeowner and that is what has to be done! Everything will soon be fixed, life goes on and you have some new things, a new water heater, up to code and a drain that works. Awesome! It is really all very good! You have a head over your shoulder, you are making your house into a home that you have always desired, and unfortunately Tom has some issues. But time heals that my friend and all of this will soon be in the past. All the angst Tom is feeling now, will eventually dissipate and life will go on...Hope you can take a hot shower tonight! Hugs, fredie

So glad Tom stayed on top of things. Sounds like what my husband would do. Enjoy your decorating
(There have been years when I approached it like another chore, what's the fun in that?) and take care of your knee. emoticon
