Faith is 10 today!

Friday, December 16, 2016

Ten years ago at this time I was in sunny Roanoke holding my very first grandchild and my ONLY granddaughter. It wasn't as cold in Minnesota as it is this year but it was 75 degrees and sunny in Roanoke - a real plus.

Faith was somewhat of a miracle. She was conceived by in vitro fertilization and it was my daughter's third try. The first two times weren't viable so when Rachelle called to tell us that she was really pregnant this third (and last) time we were so excited. Faith was even more special to me because she was born just 3 months after my mother passed away.

I loved those many days I spent with them. Faith was so small, smaller than any of my babies. She was born about 3 weeks early but that worked out for me because they called me from the hospital the night before to tell me she was coming the next day - if not naturally, then they would induce. I booked a flight for early Saturday morning and worked out all the details to be covered for work.

She has been an amazing child. I was able to spend her first birthday with her because I had to travel to Washington DC for work at the right time. This is my favorite birthday photo of her

She started walking on that visit - how exciting that was. When I was working I could take side-trips to Roanoke for a few days so it was easier to see the kids. Since I've been unemployed and now retired, those visits have become fewer and fewer. But I'm so grateful for all my grandchildren. The funny thing about that is - the doctor told Rachelle she could not have any more children, not even via in vitro. She was pretty depressed over that until she got pregnant about 6 months later - and then we got Reese. And then she was pregnant again - and now we've got Jamie John as well. Faith is such a good big sister.

This is her when Reese was born

And last summer with her mom - she's gotten so tall (her dad is well over 6')

I am one lucky Grandmother!

Such a wonderful story Kathy! Faith was a little miracle baby and it appears that her two brothers are pretty much miracle babies as well. As I always say...what the heck do doctors know..heh..heh!

Rachelle is a beauty just like her momma and Faith is absolutely adorable. You are one lucky grandma..indeed you are!

I hope you stay warm and toasty over the weekend. I still have bookwork to do tomorrow and then we go to our Saturday night dine in group at my favorite sister's new condo. She has it fixed up so adorable I can't wait to hear how much the other ladies love it.

I forgot to tell you how much I love the Christmas card you sent...you know I'm such a cat lover...it was so adorable. I'd love to get two more kitties to replace the little angel cats we had for so many years. The momma cat lived to age 14 and her big baby cat Keanu lived to age 16. They were SO beautiful...I LOVED those little fur balls...you can see them on my pic page. But...with the uncertainty about the house, we keep holding back...and DH likes the ability to just travel on a whim and not to have to worry about our animals. But I say...heck...we really don't travel because we are always working...so we shall see what we shall see.

Now that I hear so much about Lucy Lou and Daisy Doodle I keep thinking about adopting a greyhound from the local greyhound racing track. Maybe a cat AND a dog...lol! emoticon

OHHHH, what a beautiful story Kathy! So heartfelt and not only do you have a beautiful granddaughter, your daughter is just as gorgeous. Lots of resemblance going on! Lovely story.
Hope your day was good and you did what you needed to do.
Lucy Lou and I had done a lot of walking earlier and she is dead to the world as I click away....Busy day, returning things I had purchased (on a weak moment, ahem, ) and needed to do a few errands as well. It is quite windy outside making it feel colder than it really is, got all my candles burning and wearing your gorgeous shawl as well. Oh Kathy, I so love wearing this. It is the first thing I put on when I come in the cottage. You just don't realize what an awesome gift this was for me! You are such a sweetheart!
