Today is quite the day. We had a serious rain storm yesterday, yes Rain Storm complete with Thunder. It was still raining when I went to bed, and then the wind picked up. So strong that it sounded like a jet engine was just outside our window. So I was a bit concerned about what I would find in the morning - I assumed my entire yard and driveway would be an ice rink of sorts.
BUT, apparently the wind was so strong that it blew the water away from the driveway and the back step before the temps dropped below freezing. The back step wasn't icy this morning and there wasn't a hint of ice. Same with most of the driveway. I still didn't go outside with Daisy because the yard does look pretty icy and the wind was up to 35 mph - way too cold for me!
I hope everyone who celebrates Christmas had just a perfect celebration, whether very large or very small. Our family got together on Christmas Eve. The boys came early to watch the Vikings play Green Bay - the Vikings lost but the kids weren't too disappointed. The 2 girls came closer to dinner time. For the past few years we have included my ex-husband. He has been alone for 3 years now and the children really appreciate having him celebrate with us. It is strangely weird and comfortable at the same time. We have known each other since we were about 14 or so, grew up in the same neighborhood.
We also had 3 dogs which are the only photos I managed to take. We were all having such a good time that I forgot to pick up the camera again.
Here is Annie opening her present - Daisy couldn't figure out what she was doing. That man on the right side is my ex.
Daisy came over to lay by me - that is her present sitting there. She finally opened it and had herself a couple of treats.
Snoop Dogg was the only one of Jessica's dogs that came along. She has 2 others that are large dogs, pretty young and kind of all over the place. I appreciated that they stayed home.
The party ended a bit earlier than expected. Brandon & Shelly decided to drive to Shelly's parents that night rather than wait until morning because of the storm that was coming. They made the right decision - on Christmas morning 2 hours north of us where Shelly's parents live the roads were covered with ice. Mark (my ex) also decided to drive back home that night rather than take a chance of being stranded here in Minneapolis for several days. He lives about 3 hours north. Another wise decision it seems.
Our Christmas Day was quiet. Tom and I spent most of the day resting, reflecting, and just enjoying having nothing to do. My knee is still hurting me so much - I will probably go in to see the doctor again later this week. Today I am focused on doing my exercises, I have been busy the last few days and neglected that very important piece of healing!
I am posting 2 photos of the new shirts and new pajamas I received from my 2 oldest daughters - I want my friend Fredie to see how stylish I am becoming!
Wednesday is my birthday and Tom is taking me out for some additional shopping and a fancy lunch at The Cheesecake Factory - now I have a cute top to wear! And I will not be counting calories on Wednesday - I figure I can splurge a little bit in celebration of my birthday. And typically I only can eat about 1/2 my meal, the rest comes home as lunch the next day.
For those of you who celebrate Chanukah, have a wonderful week!
