Post mastectomy workout

Thursday, December 29, 2016

3 weeks have passed since my radical mastectomy. A lot of emotions have been dealt with. But a real big part of me felt unacomplished yet. Exercise has always been a part of me. Ever since I was a toddler I was motivated by my parents to have an active life. One of the hardest parts of my process with cancer was dealing with a weakened body that couldnt handle a staircase! I am still 3 weeks away from actually having my doctors approval for any physical activity, but today my parents went out for a breakfast get-together with some relatives and as I was left alone at home, I couldnt resist the temptation. Got into my yoga pants, laced up my sneakers and went out for a walk/jog. Gosh!!! Was it hard! I could have crushed 3 miles in 25 min before cancer. Now every mile felt like a whole marathon! I simply reminded myself every step of the way: as little as this step seems, its a step closer to my full recovery, its a step further from that bed cancer stuck me in for 6 months! So... here goes nothing... my first 3 miles after chemo+surgery! This was my best today, striving to be better tomorrow, but oh so thankful for the sweat i got to break today! My pores are thrilled!! 😁

So glad you were able to get out and get that sweat going. Be gentle with yourself as you heal and remember that this too shall pass. Just keep on taking it one day at a time and remember that your body is strong and that is what you need to beat that cancer.
Stay strong, stay beautiful and stay awesome always.
Prayers for 100% kick butt cancer healing.

Sometimes a good walk is all we need. Don't push yourself too hard. I have a tendency to do that, try to enjoy it more than anything. My son is a 12 year survivor of now 3 different cancers, he has been where you are and had to take it easy at first.
