Day 5 of 100 Days of Gratitude
Wednesday, January 11, 2017
Wowzers, nobody's ever going to ride in my car with me after all these "gratitudes." I live high in the Rocky Mountains in CO. We have about 40" of snow in my front "yard" which is 40 acres of mtns & no houses. Today we had very high winds (100 mph in some parts of CO) and intermittent poor visibility on my 2 lane road up to the house (8,600' above seat level). Snow was blowing horizontally on and off. I could see, then I couldn't see. Suddenly I was totally stuck in snow --even with excellent snow tires-- and couldn't tell where I was on the road. I accelerated, but the tires just spun and spun. The car moved not even one inch. I opened the door to see where I was...but could not open the door. I was on the LEFT side of the road in the lane of oncoming cars, blocked up against a 5' high drift. Luckily, I could back up 4-5 inches, then accelerate as hard as possible & pull out of the drift. And no cars were coming my way -- (sometimes it's good to live in an isolated place!) AND better yet, I wasn't on the edge of a 100' drop off. Am I grateful? Indeed, I am!
